Karma for OSC1 only: possible?

Post by coyote144 »

Hi!

I am making a huge Soundset based on my analog synths (Mini, JP8, MKS80, SH1...) and I would like to overlay 2 sounds in one program. This is ok, but I'd like to make Karma able to control only Osc1, while OSC2 keeps being unchanged.

I know really well my Kronos, but not really the Karma part. Is it possible to trigger only 1 oscillator in HD1, instead of both? Many thanks for helping.

That's impossible.

Seems there is an easy way around that in Combi mode. ?

I don't think so either,
as karma more or less communicates with an interface (think midi).
in my understading it can only control what all is exposed by the engine and not the internals (osc1 / osc 2).

Having said that it depends on what parameters you want karma to act on.
for example you could assign rtc knob to some other parameter of oscillator and then let karma handle that.
I haven't tried this myself, but should be possible for some of the parameters.

What about copying the program to another, on the original set OSC 2 off (and use the Karma settings you want). On the second program switch of OSC1. Than use a combi to layer both programs?

Thank you for all your answers.

Yes, Michelkeijzers, this is an option. Well, I want to make 128 programs based on my analog synths, so this would drive me to make some combis to allow what I need.

Basically, I wanted to overlay in a single program a Moog arpeggio (made with Karma) and, let's say, a Jupiter 8 pad.

In AL1, I found a workaround by triggering the enveloppe with a tempo based LFO to simulate a Gate signal, added to a step sequencer to control de Pitch/CV. But this workaround does not work in HD1.

Just a hunch, In hd 1 there is an option for note trigger only with damper on cc64 maybe that can be exploited.

and just a loose idea: if you then can find a KARMA module that allows to configure CC/Pitch group for CC64, you may be able to control aspects of the tone generator
