If I'm remembering the ESX-1 correctly, you used to be able to set the the start sample and the length per-part, without modifying the actual sample that was stored persistently. Is this sort of thing possible with the E2S?
From what I can tell by poking around, my only options here are the % based Oscillator Edit knob, which controls the start time, and then the Decay/Release knob for end time/length.
This seems like it would work, but when I set the part to use polyphony, the Decay/Release does what it's advertised to do: it behaves as an envelope, rather than a proper Part Length, so subsequent triggers open the volume envelope on the rest of the sample that I don't want to actually play.
Adding insult to injury, when I set the part to use Mono voicing, and re-trigger before the end of the sample, I actually get audible pops, seemingly because the thing isn't micro-fading to a zero crossing on re-trigger...
Alternatively, I can go the horribly wasteful route, where I make a whole new sample that's identical and shorter, just for this part, but that also means that I can't motion sequence the sample end time.
Anyone know of any solutions here?

Even without the Amp EG on, I still hear the later portions of the sample playing back with polyphony enabled, which is pretty frustrating :\
The envelope is permenantly routed to filter, so the attack and release knobs (along with the filter int knob) will always control how the filter responds to the envelope, even when the Amp EG button is unlit.
If I'm not listening to music, or if I'm not making music, then I'm probably thinking about music.
