ES2: available slots for sample import

Post by rotlaub »

Hi everybody,

just a short question on importing my own samples from SD-Card: Can I only import to slots 501-999? Because these are the only available slots when I try to save my samples.
If so, how can I fill up the other slots (~21-500)? I used the sample editor to get rid of some of the factory samples and obviously I want to fill up this space.

Apart from that - after having the ES2 for a few days: I'm really really happy with this machine

:D

Slots 501-999 are for user samples, i'm pretty sure that's the only place to put 'em.
If I'm not listening to music, or if I'm not making music, then I'm probably thinking about music.

Volca Sample, FM, Beats, Kick. OP-1, Monologue, Pocket Operators. And an ipad.

Yes, you can only import manually/on the device itself to 500-999.
But if you use the mac editor you can make (read only) banks with custom samples on ~21 to 500. Not sure if the windows editor supports this as well.

I'm using the windows editor.
I think I saw something like a "replace"-button in the editor. So, by using this button it might be possible to swap factory samples (20-500) with user samples - but you have to use your computer. I'll check that later.

It's not possible in the windows sample editor. You can only swap user-samples.

An allsample file with 1000 samples?

I couldnt think of anything worse...

Guys, create separate allsample files according to genre - or some other organising principle.

Remember the most samples you are going to be able to use at one time - including fx - is going to max out at 8 mono samples.

It aint a hardware version of ableton.

I have around 650 custom samples in the device. Works great. Everything is categorised and ordered. That way its very easy to switch between sounds using the oscillator knob. Couldnt have done it without the mac editor.

Once you have an editor that lets you change out the factory samples quickly I'd avoid using User Sample slots for as long as you can. It's worth noting that once you're scrolling through the User Samples you can no longer use the SHIFT button to cycle through categories of samples until you have manually scrolled out of your User Samples to the category before or after them. If you make the mistake I did of filling the User slots with 400 samples it gets tedious. So I tend to fill the factory slots with samples that I categorize so I can navigate faster. Then I'll try to use as little User slots as I can to minimize that slow-down of navigation.

It's small but annoying and I hope this is fixed in a new firmware update.

Is there a way to categorize the samples other than using the external editor?

He's having a day off...

As far as I know, it's an external editor job only.

Start at slot 523 to avoid ghost files and/or small usable ranges.
