ES2 will not sample from audio in

My ES2 will not sample from audio in. I have Audion In Thru turned On and I can hear the sound but I don't get any change when I hold shift and hit record. It doesn't show "sampling" or mono or stereo on the display when I press that.
I have done a factory reset already and it says the update is invalid if I try to run it....what gives?

The shift button works because I can hold shift and press Write to rename a pattern....

You got to use Audio-in oscillator, not audio-in thru to make it work.
To resample you need to push Shift-Rec.

I have tried that, tried it again this morning. It still won't record the audio in even though I can hear the other synth playing through the ES2. Starting to think I have a bad unit.

Just to be sure. You are pressing and holding Shift, then pressing Record?

Also, are you sure you have the sampling version? What colour is your electribe?

Because the non-sampling version has much better filters, sounds, etc...

Ahh, thanks for the info.

I would have gladly paid an extra $150 or so to have all those options in one box. I can't believe they split it up like this.

Yes, me too. I fell hard for the E2 with it's versions of MS-20 & Moog filters to name two, and was very disappointed to learn the ES2 had scaled down FX.

I really need the sampling though, so I'm making the best of the ES2.

All generations of the electribes have had sampler versions separate to the synth or rhythm versions. ES1, ESX1 etc.

Hopefully someone can hack this os and allow access to the various filter types from the sampler
