Chris Squire: RIP
Very sad news. I can't even explain the impact this band had on my life, and of course Squire was a huge part of it.

Very, very sad week, musically. First James Horner and now, Chris Squire. The band Yes was and is one of my favourites of all time. I started playing progressive rock with Dream Theater, but they wouldn't have existed had it not been for Chris Squire and the gang.
Hope they find peace wherever they are.
Goodbye legends.

Sad news indeed; I have played one song of them in a former band.

We've seen all good people bow their heads today. In and around the lake

I've seen Yes 7 times. The most for any band. Roundabout was a major turning point for me musically. Up until then I always thought that there could be a lot more to modern music than just what I was oh earring on the radio. Chris Squire's bass tone set the stage for pretty much all of the rest of the Prog bassists. He will be sadly missed.
If music is the food of love, play on and play loud!
Gear: Kronos 73, Wavestation EX, Polysix, King Korg, Monotron and Monotron Duo, Minikorg, Moog Grandmother, my very old MiniKorg, 4 acoustic and 9 electric guitars, 1 Ibanez 5 string bass, a Steel guitar, a bunch of microphones, 2 pairs of studio monitors and other very cool toys, 1 wife and 4 cats and a lava lamp!

His Rickenbacker split sound, with bass amp plus guitar amp, was one of the efforts of great bassists (from Scott LaFaro over Jamie Jamerson to Jaco and beyond) to make the instrument an audible and integral part of band play, far beyond just delivering low background. This was essential for a band like YES and will be remembered.

If there was any one band that I would consider as the "major" influence on my development as a keyboard player it is Yes. Chris Squire was a co-founder and I believe the only continuous member for 40+ years. His style and sound were a significant part of what separated Yes from the rest of the bands in that era and in many eras to come. I have seen Yes at least 10 times, probably 7 times more than any other band. He leaves a musical void that I don't believe will ever be filled.

Chris and his music are very dear to me and have been since I first started really getting into music in my early teens (many many years ago). He was a titan of bass guitar, a great vocalist and an important songwriter within the band. I feel very fortunate to have seen him live on five different occasions, including his last US tour a year ago. I will miss him dearly.

Wow... I didn't know. Great musicians come and go and it's always sad when they never come back. But wouldn't it be amazing if we find them again in our own travels. Time is a big place and we know it's connected to new space being created as hard as that is to comprehend... and information made of time is never lost. And Life is amazing... things ware out and they get replaced so I'm sure those that created positive vibrations will see the separation and change highly beneficial.
And those that didn't... no one will miss them, and no one will remember them with a tone that anyone wants to hear. Chris like so many other great benefactors of the Soul will be remembered every time they are missed.

RIP. One of the few that truly influenced my musical development. A unique voice in the musical fabric.
