E2 Midi Filter

When in the global parameter modes there are two options midi receive filter and midi send filter. They are set to off by default and have the options short, and short+filter.

I am confused on what do they Do?!

Also was curious to what setting the global midi channel does for the new electribe

Looked through the manual and alas there is no word of it.

Any ideas/answers will be greatly appreciated
