Pad Patch played by Dirty Loops Guy at NAMM - called Sailing

Watching a YouTube video of Jonah Nilsson's presentation at NAMM this week, in which he plays a pad sound on the KRONOS that sounded like he called it "SAILING" (but apparently I heard it wrong) - I was struck by how much it resembled the old "Portamento Pad" Patch on Korg's X-50. (with a nice extra Layer of cascading high end fading in, not part of the old "Portamento Pad" patch on the X-50.)

EDIT - I had the patch's name wrong - it's Portamento Pad (not Portamento Synth, which I edited out) and I found it in a Triton Classic Bank download, and loaded it onto my Karma. Not quite as rich as the Kronos.

Can anyone identify this Kronos Patch for me? "Portamento Pad" was why I picked up an X-50. Unfortunately, mine has no longer survived the rigors of turning it on and off daily, hardware-wise. And the closest I've come is on a MicroKorg XL+, with "Evolution".

Much appreciated. Maybe Jack Hotop designed the original patch, or the new Kronos one not called "SAILING" and he can chime in when he has a minute, when he's home from the show? Maybe it was a SetList selection? Maybe it was Celine? or Saline? - but none show upon a search of the voice list .pdf - unless it's brand new....

PS. In downloading the '512 new sounds' for KROSS that Korg made available recently, I thought I'd come close (to matching "Portamento Pad") by editing one called "Lonely Sphinx" on the Kross, but gave up, it was just too muddy and not nearly milky enough.

I was also wondering about that patch, whether it is part of the new sounds found inside the Kronos 2 or not.

I did hear 'sailing" too, and it is a combination from the X50 VNL (B018). And the X50 is the first synth Jonah bought and used. So presumably, he recreated the sound for his Kronos, or had it recreated for him.

I don't have a X50 to see how the combi is done, but perhaps it is possible to open the factory bank with PCG Tools to get an idea and recreate that on the Kronos.

beaucoup de thanks, gentlemen! Branman, that sound at 5'21" seems brighter and the portamento sounded less random to me; In experimenting some more, on a Kross, a VR-09 and a QS 6.1, I think it is both portamento and filter envelope that are needed to create the effect: a combination of fairly high resonance, slow attack on filter envelope (with maybe some slowish LFO modulating filter cutoff frequency as well, in addition to the portamento, and maybe some repeat echo. The Kronos sound had a filter which opened up a bit more than the X50's, but the Kronos has the HD waveforms to support that. Hard to match.

I just had another idea (actually it's Francois' idea!) - (to match the X50 sound, not find the Kronos "Sailing" Program or Combi, which would be great...) - I'll open the X50 software editor, which may or may not open without an X50 attached; and take a look 'under the hood' at that patch.

brb. - didn't work - can't load data into the Editor with no X50 attached.

Ah... crums. Right idea though. Perhaps someone with an X50 could display that B018 combi and the programs that make it taking screen grabs for you?

At least, PCG Tools should be able to show you what programs make the combi.

Well... did anyone find this program yet? I have not, but like to if it is available. I received my new Kronos 2 yesterday and love it.

Well, I found the one I was looking for (Portamento Pad from the X50) that the Kronos "Sailing" patch resembled and improved upon. . . Portamento Pad was part of a Triton Patches upload that I was able to port into my old Karma synth.
Lovin it. My Korg gear includes the Karma, a Pa-1x which is awesome (not its auto accompanying features though they're good too, but the quality of sound that comes from the thing - through the speakers as well as direct) - a Korg Kross (lightweight and versatile in its own way a very nice piano sound too), a Korg MicroKorg XL+ (even smaller, modern sounds, analog modeling like Kronos) and a Korg Pa-50sd which is a lightweight Pa-1x without aftertouch, and lives at my lady's house for when I'm about to climb the walls...but it did come in very handy at one gig when I hadn't the time to go home and fetch anything else...
So I can't justify a Kronos here and now. Plus I just rediscovered the amazing sound quality of the Yamaha Motif XS-Rack that's been lurking in my studio doing way less than it's cabable of. . . the ep's and pads on that thing are like wow. Maybe even Kronos quality?

I couldn't see what program Jonah was playing at the Launch Party, but I think it's E092 Pods In The Pad. It's one of my favorite programs from the Triton, but I included slightly different versions of it in the OASYS, M3, M50 and Kronos.
It looks like Jonah might have used the Knobs 1-3 to lower the fc, and increase resonance a little.
Pretty sure he's pressing SW1 which turns Portamento On and Off.
BTW - Knob 7 increases the Stereo Auto Fade Mod & Stereo Chorus.

Pods in The Pad is E092 in the K1, and AA011 in the K2 program order.
