New electribe, midi keyboard connection

Post by Mickmike »

If you have the new electribe connected to an ipad ( nice touch ), can you connect a midi keyboard to the electribe. In fact can you connect a midi keyboard at all?

Yes you can connect a midi keyboard really simply. Then select a midi channel to choose which part you want to control (so it will help if access to this parameter is easy on your keyboard).
There's two way of connecting the iPad - jus basic audio into the back of E2 , then effect iPad with E2s effects/filter (or not); and the midi way.
I need someone else ,like Tarekith ,to chime in here as I haven't done that.

How about ... the MIDI input? Note: You can't use the Electribe's USB port to connect a keyboard because the Tribe is NOT a USB host.

Imagine if there was a picture of the back of the electribe somewhere online. Or a product page with a spec list. Or a PDF of the manual available. That would be totally crazy.

There is a separate midi in and out from the usb connection, the electribe has 3.5 mil jack connections with little 3.5 to midi breakout cables that you get in the box

It is a crime for new members to ask questions that a 2-second Google search would answer, according to internet forum protocol.

At least it was in my day. I'm just carrying on the tradition. I'd never try to grab the attention of strangers and have them spoon feed me very basic facts. If I did, I would expect sarcasm along with the answer.

I wonder if it's cold outside today? I think I'll register an account at the Accuweather.com forums and ask the amateur meteorologists if I need a jacket.

He-he. What a dick. I've been making music for over 20 years, back on Ataris and akai samplers, so I'm no kin noob. Been using software for a few years, and just getting back into hardware, so the question was more related to USB connectivity, which was answered. Fool

Just keep in mind that because the E2 doesn't have midi pass thru from in to out, you can use an external midi keyboard to control internal sounds, but in order to control external midi synths, you need to split and merge the midi.

I'm listening now. It's acceptable. But let's see how far I make it - there's a couple of 7-ish minute songs on the horizon which generally signals doom.
