It's all ok now. My esx was one of the notorious hissy buggers but we have a different scenario now. So I got the new Electribe...now my thoughts on it.

If I'm not listening to music, or if I'm not making music, then I'm probably thinking about music.

If you want to simulate the EMX's tone on the new electribe, try this:apapdop wrote:

Make sure you have a slight bit crusher insert on every PCM part.
Set your master effect as a light distortion. Route every part to it.
Most importantly, record a 4-bar note. Go to oscillator. Set to white noise. Set the volume of this note so you can hear it at all times.
There you go - instant EMX. You can thank me in your liner notes.
Just spending way too much time dreaming about the new electribe while I wait for shipping news.roblabs wrote:Cool, I'll try this out when I get mine. (Not to simulate the EMX, but just as a reference if I want to add some noise and grit and uncleanness hehe)
Do you have one already, or you just figured this out mentally?
This has got me thinking. If/when the sampler version comes out and if/when i do get one, i should sample myself going "HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM", loop it nicely and have it on a track all by itself, so as to remind me of my beloved Esx-1.Ted3000 wrote:If you want to simulate the EMX's tone on the new electribe, try this:apapdop wrote:

GlitchCraft, where are you finding Quantization?
Is there a setting for it that gives you quantize but no option to turn it off? Can you explain your experience in more detail?
See, I am actually excited that there is quantize on an electribe.
But DrHoo has found no quantize feature (like all other electribes) and I have dived into the manual and guide and have found no mention of it either.
Please talk more about quantize on the new Tribe...you want it turned off!
Thanks!

It means that when you hit record and then start hitting pads, it snaps your notes to a grid instead of exactly when you hit the pad. This happens by default due to the note resolution of the sequencer.
That means when you hit the kick pad a little too early, the note falls into the nearest grid point on a beat. The electribe only has 32nd note resolution, plenty hi-res enough for four-on-the-floor dance music.
So electribe can't put the note a few milliseconds too early with no quantization because the sequencer has a preset note resolution and quantize is the only behavior it has, which is why there's nothing about turning it off in the manual.

So if I want to play a synth part and say have it drone out or not just play with long sustained notes I cannot do it for more than 4 bars without stopping the note I am playing. How hard is this for people to understand? Why do people not understand that this is useful to people that want to create COMPLEX music not just 4 on the floor crap. Why even have 4 bars just have 1 huh? Even if you can't understand how to make a evolving swelling long synth part someday you might and then you would understand. And this is a dumbed down Electribe for DJ and beginner synthesists and people like that will love it. I on the other hand have a studio FULL of gear that makes this sound and work like a beginner box to me and my bandmate. By the way I am no dummy I have music you can walk into any music store and buy and am glad I choose not to reveal who I really am on here. I came trying to help make this machine something special and improve it to a PRO level but I am done here. Some have understood, most not. Have fun and good bye.
Ted3000, I understand Quantize perfectly well...that's why I like it! There was no quantize on the ES1 and was kind of a pain. Everything just floated everywhere. So I had to step create my beats.Ted3000 wrote:

Now on the Kaossilator Pro the Gate Arp does exactly as you described as being a quantize function. My Micro sampler, the same thing. Love these features.
Since the Kaossiltor like gate arp is now part of the new electribe, I expect it to be easier than ever to get the beat patterns I really want.
Anyhow, Ted3000 I know Quantize, I know what it does. 32nd note resolution is perfect for me.

I get your point Glitchcraft. I don't think there is any reason to be this frustrated with the group or forum.Glitchcraft wrote:So if I want to play a synth part and say have it drone out or not just play with long sustained notes I cannot do it for more than 4 bars without stopping the note I am playing. It really sounds like that this new Electribe is just not for you. It is a tool but not a tool that fits your studio needs. It sounds like you plan to focus on working on the studio more than live performance. If you are performing live then the EMX is your unit.
Everybody has different needs and to expect the "all in wonder" is a pretty huge expectation to fill.
I got the microSampler...I researched the whole damn thing top to bottom but one thing I didn't pat attention to was that there was no step sequencer. I should have paid attention to that because that was a feature the microSampler sorely missed. I thought it would make a great phrase sampler, Korg made a great one with the KP-3 so why not a keyboard dedicated to sampling, right? Wrong! The microSampler is a great tool but for my uses as a performance sampler it was terrible! First off all the custom setting for quantize and at what resolution and volume and all of these parameters never saved. Oh what a pain. But I had to come to grips with one thing, the microSampler is a studio only tool. That's where it excels. You can turn it into a rompler and make a great 32 key keyborad with your custom sounds in it.
So while you are right, 8 bars is better than 4 bars and hell anything that is more is going to be better...at least have the option to do more. But I think in your case you have a tool that really is not for your purposes.
You nailed it when you called the electribe a "Super Kaossilator Pro". Yeah you're right! It's like korg listened to all of the complaints and firmware requests and put is all together with a kaoss effects processor and made the ultimate Kaoss synth. This thing is a dream for Kaoss users like myself, for live performance.
Anyhow I am just saying that I would hate to see you go. I think your input is rather refreshing and very helpful regardless the push back you get from others.
Don't get frustrated, don't bail on us.
