I know I'm late to the party but wanted to thank you for all the effort that went into creating V1 & 2. I downloaded them and have been unable to remove the permanent grin on my face ever since.
Dare I ask when and if a V3 may appear?

Hi bothJoe Gerardi wrote:I just use an 8' drawbar sound on the organ patches. Sorry, I've been playing Hammonds since the '60's, so I don't really use a lot of patches, I just use the sliders on the Kronos to get the drawbar sound I want.
One thing about Tony Banks' Hammond sounds: he was never into the distorted, crunchy sounds a la Emerson, Wakeman, and Lord: he preferred a cleaner, purer sound, so use one of the CX-3 sounds that are like that.

I'm the keyboard player in the UK Los Endos

I use 008000000 on my Hammond SK2/XK3C as Joe said - that is what Tony used.
And "slow" Leslie - I don't think he ever used "fast".
There is a debate about Battle of Epping Forest but I suspect it was vibrato/chorus rather than "fast" Leslie.

Instead of loading the bank, select the PCG and carry on opening the content with the button Open. It will show you what loading slot is used by default.
Take the time to read Loading data in the Operation Guide, and Disk in the Parameter Guide. Navigating, loading, saving and understanding what files are, these are basic things you need to learn how to do.

These are awesome. Sat there for like an hour the other night picking out a few of these tunes.
I have one extremely minor complaint:
The Tom Sawyer bass sound is perfect save for one thing: after listening to the recording, the high 'sweep' starts too late on the patch. It definitely starts immediately on the recording. I am COMPLETELY new to programming or else I'd take a crack at changing it myself. Might make a copy of the patch and screw with it anyway
I love it tho. That large vibrate-y osc coming through my studio monitors loud as hell makes my jewels vibrate. It's great.
Thanks a ton for these. Fun trip down memory lane.

Although I would have to say, that if I remember correctly, his organ work on "The Yes Album" (one of my faves) definitely had some crunch and distortion - just no percussion.Joe Gerardi wrote:One thing about Tony Banks' Hammond sounds: he was never into the distorted, crunchy sounds a la Emerson, Wakeman, and Lord: he preferred a cleaner, purer sound, so use one of the CX-3 sounds that are like that.

Ah, but that wasn't Rick Wakeman. Tony Kaye was the original keyboard player, and that was his last album with Yes.
He did favor the more crunchy, distorted Hammond sound, and was rather monochromatic. (Actually, that was the problem between him and the other members- his reluctance to use synths.)

Ah, how right you are. I didn't think it was Wakeman; I was confusing Tony Banks with Tony Kaye - doh! Although I still have to say The Yes Album is one of my faves, even though I love where Yes went after that. And I think Tony Kaye's keyboard work worked very well on that album - although Wakeman later provided what he didn't want to. I had heard of his reticence to embrace synthesizers; in fact, there's a few places on that album where a synth appears, and it's pretty excruciatingly amateur, such as the resonance sweep in Perpetual Change - where it's like he said "OK, I finally give in, we'll use a synth here" - or something to that effect. Still, "Your is no Disgrace", "Perpetual Change", and "Starship Trooper" are masterpieces - and Tony Kaye's organ work "works".Joe Gerardi wrote:Ah, but that wasn't Rick Wakeman. So, did I read correctly that you used KARMA to replicate the Kyrie arpeggiators? (Another fave of mine, that first Mr. Mister album, especially that song.) I haven't downloaded this set, there's just not enough hours in the day, but I suppose I should, just to check it out. Note order "As Played", I think you said is what you used (not "order"), and that's it totally, if you listen to that record. He used a simple arpeggiator, with note order as played (if it even had that option, or maybe that was all it did) - and what came out of the arpeggiator is how he struck the chord at that particular minute in real-time. No pre-planning there; no chord triggers; just flopped his hands down on the keys and the exact order of the notes that moment (some a few milliseconds before others) determined the order of pitches in the phrase, and that's what they recorded "live". That's why every time the chord changes, the note order is slightly different. And it became "magic" that people want to duplicate to this day. Kudos to you for recognizing that fact, and recognizing the appropriate KARMA parameter to duplicate it. I love note generation. When I first started trying to figure out that arp I spent time with the original (slowed down) as well as other recreations. The guy who did the Motif patches did an excellent job. I saw in his videos though, that he was playing it manually with both hands. As the first arp spans a 12th, yes you would need to do it with two hands. So how are you going to play the other part (which also requires both hands)? The arp pattern is unique in that it doesn't repeat exactly the same with each chord change. The only thing that's consistent is that high-G at the start of each pattern. So I wanted to replicate that as best I could. After spending time with the KARMA editor and thinking I needed to come up with my own KARMA GE, I figured out that using "order" as the sort input order. This in fact works, but you would have to press the keys in the proper order (which varies) for each of the patterns, and use both hands to do it.Drama thanks, and I do think Kyrie does showcase some of the unique things about the Kronos.

Interesting thread as I am a huge prog rock fan, and potential Kronos owner.Scott wrote:From Genesis, there are a number of sounds on the older stuff with their classic character of the time, mostly ARP Pro Soloist stuff, but if you're talking about "popular" Genesis, then I would think maybe Abacab and Turn It On Again.
Cool to see ELP Trilogy there. There are a number of major synth sounds in that song...
Maybe some Yes? The synth breaks in Roundabout, for example...
Here is a very interesting list of Tony Banks' gear through the eras, which shows a constant evolution.

Hi Derek
Don't mess around
- go get the Kronos and have a great musical experience (and very little sleep) - we have an awesome forum member "Qui Robinez" who has created some absolutley outstanding sounds for us. Then there are all the great samples available - many developed by our members like "Sharp" etc...etc..., tutorials and these forums - you can't go wrong!!!
What model would you consider? 61/76/88?
Cheers
Pete
OH!!! and welcome to the forums !!!

Yeah I should be buying one, but do need to try one first given the cost...... I'm currently overseas on business, so have to wait until I get back.
I will probably go for 61 key as I'm not a piano player, and have been bought up on semi weighted keybeds, and my gig rig would be my 76 note Yammie EX5 and the Kronos on the second tier, where I currently have a 61 Novation Remote.
On paper the Kronos looks like the board for me, due to it's 9 engine approach (like an EX5 on steroids), so really looking forward to trying it out.
