Setlist and pads

Post by Bertotti »

OK what am I missing. I am in setlist and cannot seem to find a tab for the pads! How did I forget where to find it? I am in the process of assigning the last 8 keys of the QuNexus to the pads.
One other question if you where to assign any controls to a pad what would you choose? I have velocity pressure and tilt I can work with, but don't really know what I would like so I ask what you like so I can try it out. Thanks!

I set the pads in a combination and add the combi to the setlist.

I see but my problem is I haven't figured out how to get the pads display on while in set list mode.

So now I have read about the pads but I am stilling the dark a bit. I understand how to assign 8 pads to my QuNexus. I will do so in the morning as currently I am way to tires to haul my butt out of bed. Nevertheless I am unclear how to set up pAds past the first 8. What do I do if I want more then 8 pads? And can I use a wave sequence in a pad? I assume now that would be done is combi mode. Thanks!

1. You can't get to the pads from setlist mode. You'll have to check if it's a combi or program you're playing and switch to that mode.
2. There are only eight pads/chords available per program/combi.
3. A pad just plays a predefined chord using the sound of the program/combi. If there's a wavesequence in there, sure. Not sure what you're expecting?

Thanks, no real expectations just messing around. Never really played around with pads and I am just experimenting on what I could do with them. :D

Another Kronos midid question a little off topic. I haven't figured out how assign a midi cc# on the qunexus. I am sure I am just missing something but it got me thinking. Kronos pads will also respond to note. With that in mind can would I be correct in thinking that since the Kronos has midi Global channel and midi channels 1-16 I could have the same cc# on every different channel doing something different? It seems right while I am thinking about it but I haven't tried it yet. Thanks

Have a look at the pads screen in a patch or combi. That is exactly what you get, no more and no less.

Yep I like the pads screen but I don't like using the pads screen. I will figure out the QuNexus and it has a toggle function I hope to take advantage of. My only gripe is the velocity doesn't function quite the way I would like but that is probably just me and my preference for the K61 Keybed.

I think I misunderstood your question two posts ago. I thought you were asking if you could have different pads for each midi channel. You can't. But yes, midi CC#s are unique to their midi channel. What the Ks global channel is has very little to do with it, the global channel is just the channel the Ks own keyboard and controls send their data on.

Oh that was one of my questions so you were not mistaken. I may not always be clear. I'm still not proficient in Kronos speak.
A work in progress I guess. But yes I was wondering if I could set up different pads in each midi channel and also wondered if I could use the same cc# in different channels but with different controls or outcomes ties to them. Like for instance have a cc# with a pad on channel one but have the same cc# controlling the ribbon or joystick etc in channel 2. I guess I should just try. I don't imagine it will hurt anything to try.

The pads don't respond to CC#s, they respond to note numbers on the global channel. There are 8 pads, period. Pitchbend isn't a CC# either, although Joystick Y is I think.

Hey that could be why I am hitting a wall. I was trying to get to the pads with the Qunexus using cc#. I will revert to note numbers. I also was trying to set it up on a channel other then global. I will revert that back also. I do not remember reading that anywhere although it most likely is I missed it or just haven't read the proper pages. Setting this up is kicking my but but thats good. I certainly won't forget once I figure it out! Thanks!

I am googling perhaps the wrong question. I am sinking deep here. I am about to tops the kronos and qunexus out the window!

I have tried any and every combination of setting I could think of, been using the on board help but I am still in the dark.

I have used the I have tried the kronos are global, controllers scales, function assign and I can not get the qunexus to play the pads.

I have tried the global, midi, external 2, page and can not get the qunexus to play the pads.

global p1 midi is set to midi channel 01, local control on and pads midi is set to pad cc/note.

I do not know if my problem is with the qunexus or the kronos. Can someone please guide me here how to set up the Kronos? Thanks!

edit to add. I know the Kronos sees my QuNexus as I can connect to usb and it plays the notes on the keyed. I can assign the note number on the Qunexus and the notes change accordingly. I can only assume my problem is my knowledge of the Kronos to set the QuNexus up to play the pads. Sorry to keep bothering you all tis should have been a simple process, or at least I thought it should. Anyway I am going back to experimenting and reading maybe I will stumble on the answer.

Actually at one time the Kronos would not recognize non Korg usb midi devices for the pads. Perhaps that is still the case and I am chasing a ghost? I have the midi expander maybe I should give it a shot and see if it works.

Actually, you can use either CCs or Note Numbers in the Global Mode to trigger the 8 Pads. Yes, they need to be on the Global Channel.

However, the 8 Pads themselves (in a Combi) can be programmed to send their notes on different MIDI Channels. Each pad has a MIDI Channel setting. Therefore, you could do something like put each of the 4 KARMA Modules on a different MIDI Input Channel, such that they are not triggered by the keyboard, and assign a different Pad to trigger each Module individually.

By way of example, you could set Module A's MIDI input Channel to "12", and set Pad 1's MIDI Channel to "12", and the pad would trigger the KARMA phrase, but the keyboard would not.

In fact, you can use this to do this:
- Set up a sound on the full range of the keyboard, on the Global Channel, so that you can play the full keyboard.
- Set all 4 KARMA Modules Input Channels to some unused channel such as "12".
- Set all 8 Pads to the same MIDI Channel.
Now, you can send different chords into KARMA from the pads only, while playing the full range of the keyboard on top of the backing tracks without affecting KARMA at all.

Here is what I find found in the parameters guide.
"Playing the pads from MIDI or the keyboard
Pads can be triggered by incoming MIDI notes or CCs, or from the local keyboard. To do so:
1. Go to the Global P2: Controllers page.
2. Under MIDI CC# Assign —Vector Joystick / Pads, set Pads 1‐8 to the desired MIDI notes.
You can also use MIDI CCs, if you prefer. With CCs, the value of the CC is used as the pad’s “velocity.”
It’s as simple as that; the pads will now respond to the specified notes or CCs on the Global channel."

I have done this with midi notes and it hasn't worked. I think perhaps my replacement QuNexus also has a problem. I will contact them. They were very helpful with the problem of the first QuNexus but since the replacement arrived they won't respond to my submitted tech requests. Time for a phone call I suppose. Thanks Stephen I would love to do that but until I can figure out how to make this controller work I stuck!
