Could be because of Christmas.

I can't tell what's going on with the esx1. If you look on korg's home site it is still there under current products yet when i shop around for one it's like there are not many around.
They NEED to keep making them OR come up with a next generation model because they are an excellent tool. Maybe there are fewer used units up for grabs because people don't want to sell them.
I would love to see a new unit which is solely a midi sequencer. Maybe just 8 or 16 channels of keyboard parts to route in any order you want. The same pattern & song modes but no fx or audio.

If only they had fixed the jitter issues in 2010 when they re-released the emx and esx, i got a new esx this year and it jitters like crazy. I got to take my new drum machine apart and mod it with cooking sheets before i can use it outside of the studio.(hell and in the studio much of the time)DrHoo wrote:I can't tell what's going on with the esx1. I would like to see a more robust sampler to compete with whats on the market now, because the esx and emx are sweet but they pale in comparison to the increasingly more advanced options of the competition.

Korg are slowly losing what must be some of their most loyal customers... the 'tribers. Having taken so long to bring out any kind of successor to the tribe range people are slowly moving to other manufacturers for better more powerful equipment as their needs develop beyond that of what the tribes can match. I am one of them, I'm boxing my EMX's and upgrading to an entirely new setup... and if Korg ever do bring out successors to the tribe line (which I doubt) they will have already lost some die-hards.
not all of us want sh*tty cheap analogue toys or overpriced workstation keyboards. some of us just want Korg to get off their lazy arses and produce an electribe worthy of the legacy and that really isnt a stretch for them. It may just be a question of market dynamics and financial viability and lets face; it the groovebox market is dying a slow horrible death.

Korg stopped manufacture the Electribes and probably only selling the remaining stock. In many countries, new boxes are not available anymore.
Looks like Korg is treating the Volca series as the successor to the Electribes or rather the EMX.
However for all of what I've seen and heared (never actually got hands on them) they disappoint:
All examples shown are awefully bleepy, also not much "stomp" if you know what I mean
Plastic case, easily scratched, woobly knobs, plugs on top, touchy step keyboard with no buttons. Therefor no resistance playing them. No Fx. Laughable step sequencer. 8 patterns can be saved and no other way to backup like SD card.
Only positive aspect is probably that they are polyphonic and cheap. And Analog for the retro guys.
Sad thing is, that I've not heared of any other new Electribe-comparable Grooveboxes from other companies.

I've Got Two
I just picked up two used ESX's in the past month. The first was Craigslist, local, and the guy said lots of people called him so I bought another on Ebay real quick. They were both 'middle dollar' and frankly less than the first one I bought and sold a year ago. Anyway, I think the (used) market on these things comes and goes. Keep a steady hand and you'll dig one up.

Yes they do fluctuate (between £180- £260 for s/hand asking price in UK)- and there does seem to be less on the go. I have only today purchased another- so I will now have two. I hardly touch my EMX these days- It always sounds a bit lame to me now (compared to sequencing/sampling my novation/ Korg synths).

Im hoping for a new Electribe soon. I've also seen that the stores don't even have them listed anymore.
I think they will definely have a new version.. They know that not everyone will go for monotibe-esue boxes with minijacks and tiny knobs. I have the Volca Keys and really like it, but there needs to be something for us "serious sequencers!" and Korg isn't making any dough if people are hunting down used boxes.

this is kind of what the electribe was based off of.
