I'm probably opening a can of worms here but just need some clarification on replacing the backlight with a pretty new blue one I've ordered.
I've noticed in various places on the interweb that some people say leave the old backlight in and others saying slide it out. So with that said, what is the better way of doing it, remove the old completely and put the nice bright new one in or leave the old and slide the new one in with it?
The latter sorta confuses me a tad as what the hell side would I slide it in if I left the old in there??? Sliding it between the old one and the board would surely dull the new one.
Backlight + Carl = Confused.

The original EL (electroluminescent) foil is sometimes fixed to the PCB with adhesive tape, that is near impossible to remove without disassembling the whole display (and potentially creating a whole bunch of new problems).
Therefore it migt be easier to slide in the new foil on top of the old one (beween it and the glass display assembly).
If you search a bit more, you'll find manuals where it is illustrated with photos pretty clearly and will understand right away.

I've seen plenty of posts/stories on the folly of disassembling the display, that idea is so off my radar - yet I've seen stories where the EL has with slight a touch of force just slid out - I'm hoping for that scenario but if it needs to squeeze tween the old and the glass then so be it.synthjoe wrote:The original EL (electroluminescent) foil is sometimes fixed to the PCB with adhesive tape, that is near impossible to remove without disassembling the whole display (and potentially creating a whole bunch of new problems).
