after doing other things, i just wanted to tell the community how my current and probably final solution is constructed:

I attached the SilenX fan mentioned earlier to the motherboard cooler.
It's the very silent fan with way too insufficient air flow for standard mounting.
In this solution it's air flow is sufficient.

Then I drilled a grid of holes into the bottom cover right below it.
Fan direction is inside out.

This way the hottest spot is cooled directly.
The panel area above the motherboard now is about 3-5°C higher in temperature than on the left side of the top cover.
Didn't measure other areas, because the whole case is cooler than with the original fan.

It is important to decouple the fan from the bottom cover.

I only get some deep quiet swoosh from it now.

@curvebender, how can you live without a kronos?
Aribo,

I think you just answered your own question. ;-)

Hi all,
Is there a minimum length for the extension cable for a K73 ?
I found one with 30 cm length (11.811") is that sufficient ?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Cheers :D

Can anyone confirm whether or not Korg has a reliable replacement process for unacceptably noisy fans under their warranty?

Thanks.

Why?
Cause I thought it's not that important that I got rid of my noisy K61 and got myself an X73 instead and that I am very happy with it.

Well I just had my fan replaced by Korg and guess what.

Its even bloody noisier than the last one, I am beginning to loose the will to live with this bloody keyboard.

It's obvious that the manufacturing and the local distributor do not consider an audible fan is undesirable. I think that they humour some people, whom they consider to be complainers. Korg are not measuring the noise and therefore don't know/care if a replacement fan is better or worse.

I find the noise completely objectionable and can't understand that teams of designers and beta testers allowed it to stay in the design. Don't hope for a korg to fix this. But do wait a reasonable amount of time for early warranty faults to appear then replace the fan yourself. Asking Korg to look after you is not actually helpful advice.

Said with much respect but common sense.

Hi. This is a vrey useful topic.
Did some of you tried this Noctua NF-A6x25 FLX? Link
I'm really considering to buy it because AFAIK Noctua make really good fans and also provides full instalation kit. I'd really apreciate if I can have a separate opinion.

Thank You

Just got my fan replaced, finally, and I was so excited to have a quiet keyboard. However, this Noiseblocker XR2 with gasket is different but equally loud as the original. And this has a "beating sound" going slower then faster then to equilibrium and continuously all over again. It's loud.

Do others really and truly have a Kronos (I have the 61) that you have to put your ear to in order to hear noise? When I shut mine off is when it's painfully clear that it's a beastly cacophony. Ten times louder than a hard drive. Normal?

I love the sound of this board SO MUCH but I can't abide this level of wow and flutter and vibration. Who to call? Ghostbusters?

I’m sorry to hear that, nowtime. Sounds like you tried Francois’ fix, gasket and all, and it did not work.

The unfortunate truth is that under Seiki Kato’s leadership, Korg employees feel they must refrain from helping those who would rather not live with the fan noise. Additionally, authorized Korg repair centers are not allowed to modify the fan even if the customer is willing to acknowledge and accept that doing so would void Korg’s warranty. The Korg culture, good and bad, starts at the top. Seiki Kato could change this company wide attitude regarding the Kronos fan with one phone call. He chooses not to.

Keep the board posted if you find a suitable fix.

Fan upgraded...

Post by FuzzyDweeb »

Just bought my Kronos 61 last week (ex demo).

First thing I did was updated the OS to the latest available and then have the back off and fit another 1Gb RAM and a second SSD to make it an X.

After a few days I noticed the sound of the stock 60mm fan which sounded like a 'motor boat' at full tilt! After doing further research and reading here I then upgraded the fan by replacing it with a German NoiseBlocker XR2 (with funky purple blades) and removed the old manky stock one as there was no room really in the 61 to store it safely ...so out it came.

Warranty will now be void but who cares my board is now an X and it sounds like it was supposed to be i.e. virtually silent!

The NoiseBlocker XR2 is the fan you want in this board without doubt. Just use ALL 4 supplied purple coloured rubber mounts to mount the fan and jobs a good un.

I had to use a fan extension cable with the new fan. It almost fits but because it has to wrap around the ferrite core you lose a few inches thus an extension is required.

As a final thing I stuck some foam padded insulator to the bottom of the SSD chassis so that when you pop the lid back on no vibration can get thru to the metal base plate (It still earths via the screws anyway of course).

If you buy a used/ex demo Kronos and feel you can do these mods yourself you can save a packet plus get the board how it should of been in the first place. I for one do know what I'm doing tho and none of the above is for somebody without a basic knowledge of electronic inards etc.

The end.

As I said before I'll consider this one too. I hope it has the same noise performance like the NoiseBlocker or meybe the Noctua is Better. Unfortunately I don't have the posibility to try both of them. :D

Good Luck with it and please let us know how it performs if you install it.

This is the fan I used in my Kronos 61, really quiet. and has 3 speed settings. Really a good fan makes the difference. Cost: 10€ (I am from Spain).
