Stop saying since 10 years novation just do toys...
Old fart stop complaining ,Novation has saved life of many VST users with Automap! Novation has made life of traveler a savior with the xiosynth-
Not every one can afford to buy a Nova--and those Ultra Nova ,mini Nova are far to be toys...Plus be glad they still build hardware in those software times...bur anyway old people always complain, say everything was better in the old days,,,but the kids they live today and beleive me a Mininova 10 years ago would have cost a fortune!!!!

Or wicked good, depending on how one adapts. I love the microseriesBasariStudios wrote:These things lately are ridiculous.

Yes indeed, in fact I am considering a korg microstation . I am thinking it would be perfect for programing midi tracks while kicking around and relaxing on the couch. Then I can save as a midi and transport to my M50/Karma set up for backing tracks.rrricky rrrecordo wrote:Or wicked good, depending on how one adapts. Ever since the first Yamaha PortaSounds I've been hooked on the wee guys. i still have a Yamaha PS400. Built like a tank, heavy little guy... and run through a rack of effects it still does things that uberworkstations can't. Nice analog drum section. I miss my lost CS01, a sweet little gift from Yamaha that one was. Those little keys let me play bits I couldn't otherwise pull off.
But yes, the Microstation is a jewel

I have the A Station rack so I was going to get a Nova but the arp didn't output over midi and if you changed a sound with an arp going the arp would stop. Don't know if the Mini is the same but don't assume that it can be set differently before you buy. The 'touch &tweak' ergonomic layout and big display was good on the Nova. Korg could learn from that aspect.roblabs wrote:
Even so, if you've never used a Novation synth, at least it may be a nice entry into their product line. All i own from novation is a launchpad, so people like me are a bit more excited about this than the novation vets.
If Korg included DIN midi on the nanoKONTROL2 I'd buy one, even if it was a 5-pin mini DIN with a min-to-standard DIN flying lead (with power input).
Tried this synth today, i think it lies somewhere between the r3 and microkorg xl obviously a complete knock off but has some good features korg didnt include in the microxl... sustain pedal!!!! (big one for me),better quality mod and pitch bend wheels, nice soft buttons, better knobs not so plasticy like xl, usb powered, better design(in my opinion)
cons... osc sounds and effect choices limited, everything froze except for the main volume knob when i tried editing the arp on a specific bass preset had to turn off and on again,
i would buy this in a second because of the sus pedal input, overall design and build....but i think the sound quality and effects have nothing on korg
and because the sound is the whole point of an instrument i will not be buying a mininova i will wait patiently until someone gets it right.
my wishlist for the next korg synth would be.. bigger keys! doesnt have to be full size just bigger than what youre doing on the micro stuff, four octaves!!!! a pedal input,a bit of color, good quality knobs and wheels.
does anyone else agree or am i just hard to please????

I could not resist and ordered mine today and got 75 dollars off to boot for a black friday sale. I almost went for a microarranger but this just seemed to be so much more fun and I believe it will compliment my M50 with Karma perfectly making a nice little lead synth with some of the best vocoding and vocal tune sounds I have heard to date. There is just something about haveing all this tweakability in such a sharp looking tight little package that I found to be simply irresistable from the moment I laid my eyes on it I wanted one. I will have it by the weeks end and will let you all know what I think . Everytime I play my M50 now I can only imagine how nicely this is going to fit into my rig. I heard someone doing excellent Daft Punk work with it on youtube a few minutes ago and can't wait to give that a try .

When you go to the link , scroll down the page and you can listen to some of the sounds from free additional patches available for the mininova that show how wonderfully versitile this little board can be. Some excellent work on all of these free add on packs, have a listen and see.

She might be small, but holy crapolla Batman the sound is HUGE. Did I say the sound is HUGE?
I came home from running around town to the post office ect. and found the UPS driver delivering the Mininova to my door step. Iopened it right up of course and just interchanged it in my rig for the M50 as I have not yet completed the stand for it and my mixer so that I can run both boards together nicely.
First off, let me say that the promo videos for this little beast in no way do it justice. After watching all of the promos I really just did not know what to expect from it. I never would have imagined it would sound so great. Even the dubstep stuff that so many laughed at have some very useful sounds for many other types of music. The organ emulations are most excellent and the control of leslie is second to none. Some of the patches are a tad wierd and might need to be overwritten but the sound this beast delivers overall is going to really add a fresh punch to my tracks from the M50/Karma rig.
I hope to get some video or audio up after a busy weekend so you can all check out just some of the massive amount of sound this tiny beast has to offer.
I am VERY HAPPY with this purchase and can not wait to spend the rest of my afternoon putting my rig into it's final set up so I can use it along with the M50. Lots to do so I have to run and will post an update later on.

I got the chance to play with it today at the GC in Chicago, it sounds much better than I thought it would. As a Nova (Laptop) and UltraNova user, I was pretty impressed. This little thing has some bass sounds on it that's for sure. It's very intuitive and easy to use and program, even more so than the UltraNova. I'm actually thinkin' 'bout going back and buying one for myself.

The arps section is a lot more versitile than I thought at first and creating your own patches get some excellent results. I have not found a file sharing download page for the minivova as of yet but there is one for the ultranova and those files work on the mini also.
Novation must have sold a ton of these little mininovas over black friday because the support team is absolutely swamped.
I had one heck of a time downloading my abelton live lite 8 but finally managed on my own to register that. It is a very easy to use platform that I will have to definately explore further but I easily managed to record a few audio tracks and save them and it went smoothly.
I definately will be learning a lot more about synthesis while editing the mininova. But editing is certainly worth the effort on some of the patches. Often just fattening up the fx slots will add a lot of punch to some of the patches.
The mini keys took only about 20 minutes to adjust to and in some ways they are preferable to the full size keys. chords are a bit harder but leads are smooth and fast.
I am feeling like a kid in the candy store today.
