Ikaossilator and using samples, sample manipulation etc...

Post by starving student »

was excited to see that you could import samples and almost bought this app
but during my research it seems everyone is saying that there is nothing you can do with the samples you import besides play some filter over the top. is this true?

I know there are allot of kaoss experts here could someone or someones chime in and really give me some insight on what the status is regarding samples in the ikaossilator?

and is there an upcoming update to change this, has there been any response from korg on the issue of this?

lastly if this is what I'm looking for and the ikaossilator is not up to par what other apps should I be looking at?
thanks in advance for your recommendations.

I haven't used the iKaossilator that much, but I think it's true you can't manipulate samples besides filtering them. There are some alternatives, for instance Aurora HD, which I think gives you some more options in that regard. It's a bit more like the Yamaha Tnr-i. I'd recommend the latter too, because of its cool sequencing functions (don't think you can manipulate samples on the tnr-i, haven't tried that yet)

thanks hugo, it's a shame and I hope they do something about this because if you could I would pay more than what they ask for the app.

in the mean time does anybody know of an app that does do what i'm asking here?

It is true. You cannot use any functions except filter on imported.

But, a bigger problem is this:

It is IRONIC that Korg forum's iKaossilator owners are busily programming data to the app when ALL DATA can be lost in an instant. READ MY POST. Comment. Make sure Korg gets this message. THERE IS NO WAY TO BACK UP USER DATA.
I mailed a bilingual Jap/Eng snail mail letter to Korg Japan. This problem needs to be fixed. So why aren't you forum members aware that YOU CAN ONLY BACK UP AUDIO, NOT PROGRAM DATA??
There is a type of program data back up if you post your loop data onto soundclound via the iKaossilator. You can then import SHARED world-wide user loops. But you won't get your own loop data, because you cannot choose which shared loops to import; imported shared loops are only randomly chosen by Korg. Thus Korg is so close to having a BACK UP capability, without even being aware that this functions exits. IF ONLY WE COULD CHOOSE WHICH SHARED LOOPS TO IMPORT THEN WE COULD CHOOSE OUR OWN PERSONAL LOOPS FROM OUR OWN SOUNDCLOUD PAGE. THEN WE COULD USE OUR SOUNDCLOUD ACCOUNT AS OUR BACK UP for iKaossilator.

When you import your loops, your original loop is saved but you can change the BPM at which it is played back, the length of the sample played back, and the volume of the sample in addition to the other filters. You can also export patterns you've saved if you only select the one sample for playback you can copy it and repaste it back into the app so you're able to resample your samples. With audiobus support you can now filter your samples through other apps too.
