Korg X50 MIDI channel problem

Post by theconnyb »

Hi

I am having some worries about the MIDI channels on my Korg X50 (I am using the X50's own sounds as playback, not software synths).
I am trying to record multiple MIDI tracks in my DAW (Reaper) and it goes fine as long as I record just one track. I can then select the voice I want on my X50 and it plays back as it should.
However, when I create a new MIDI track and change the voice on my X50, the first track changes too.

I have now tried to assign MIDI channel 1 to track 1 and MIDI channel 2 to track 2 and so on. But the problem is, in the Global Settings of my X50, under MIDI, the MIDI channel says "1". I can change it to "2" or "3" all the way up to "16", but I can not select "All".

I am thinking that because it is set to "1", it will only use channel 1. So I changed it to "2" and then the playback for MIDI track 2 worked fine in my DAW, but MIDI track 1 was silent.

Could someone please help me out??

I am not using Reaper, but what comes into my mind is:

You need to add midi buses for each new channel in Reaper.

Try to set all MIDI channels to 1, this way all the channels will be audible.. or I just haven't understood you at all.

That would work fine if I wanted to have the same voice on every channel ;) Yeah sorry, you must have misunderstood

This sounds interesting, could you be more specific?

The thing is, I CAN use Korg x50's Multi Mode. It is a collection of sounds sending out on MIDI channels 1-16 but it is a HASSLE to work with.

Really what I want to do is that the Korg understands to change outgoing channel as I am changing tracks in Reaper. Channel 1 for Track 1 and so on.. One thinks that it should be possible since the Korg already acts as a slave to Reaper?
