Karo on Youtube videos

Post by michelkeijzers »

Karo has uploaded several videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2kPF-BSR-Y
EXs61 KARO Pedal Bass

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ky-w8B5Z850
EXs54 KARO Granular Atmospheres

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzYQ4BzzTwI
EXs53 KARO Granular Atmospheres

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rW_NwlgpZZE
EXs51 KARO Unison Orchestra

Btw, this is not advertisement, just noticed there was a lot spoken about Karo before and I noticed his videos.

For me there are so many sounds I have to explore, I am not into buying more sounds already and playing in a rock band does not really justify the need of buying these Karo libraries.

Definitely! It was the orchestras and choirs from the M- and T-series that got me into Korg products in the first place!

Michel, thanks very much for posting!!

Are these libraries (in particular the orchestral one) based on factory samples? or new samples?

Nice!

Assyrianpianist: I'm not entirely sure but I seems to have read those are new streaming samples.

I wish Karo would setup sound samples on their website while we're waiting...

At least to get an idea.

I wonder how copy protection would be handled, I mean not that I intend to break it, but a PCG once one a Kronos can be copied freely and I think the similar is true for samples.

The Kronos has tremendously advanced copy protection: it's impossible to copy a library that hasn't been released! The Karo libraries were actually released in November as scheduled, it's just that the copy protection is so incredibly strong, it isn't possible for Korg to even copy it to their webserver. ;)

Interestingly, all reference to the Karo libraries has been removed from korg.com/kronos, where previously there was reference to them being released soon and a link to Karo's website...
Current Equipment:
Korg Kronos 2 88, Reface CS, Roland JV-1080, TE OP1, Moog Subsequent 37, Korg ARP Odyssey, Allen & Heath Zed 18, Adam F5, MOTU MIDI Express XT, Lexicon MX200 & MPX1, Yamaha QY700, Yamaha AW16G, Tascam DP008ex, Zoom H6, Organelle, Roland J6 & JU06A

I would expect that if the samples and PCG is inside a Kronos you can just copy them to files and be transported to another Kronos.

It sounds like they're distributed with some sort of public key protection tied to a particular user's Kronos. Remember the screen which lists the installed options? I think that's what it's there for... I guess we'll see when we see.

Correct cynkh - I believe the plan is to have files locked until the license key is input - and the license key will have some sort of connection to the machine's public user ID, thereby making it impossible to transfer to another Kronos.

The Unison orchestra was originally released for the OASYS. It mostly uses original samples (probably of the Mannheim, but only my guess).

It is likely that the samples have now been re-worked and optimised for streaming, as well as made compatible with any extra parameters the Kronos has over the OASYS.

Thanks Cello for me too ... however still I think it's strange.

I mean if the PCG is on the Kronos I would think it is possible to store it on a disk. However, probably the samples are protected the way you describe.
