Did you format the thumb drives on the Kronos? If not, maybe you could try that.macmedic wrote:I followed the instructions to the letter and all I got was the message: failed to locate source drive ? Do it! (Quick Format, 32). Next, say something... I'm waiting.michelkeijzers wrote:Did you format the thumb drives on the Kronos? 1.5 Didn't go so well for me
Too bad this is my first post. Everything about the Kronos 88 I have has been awesome except the reboot after upgrade. I have never expereinced any issues and none of the issues reported on this Forum, which is also very informative...read it all the time!
Just wondering if any of you had this issue and any suggestions.
I followed the instructions to a "T". Read all the posts available about the upgrade and tried it myself about 20 minutes ago. Everything went exactly like everyone has been saying and the instructions said. I got the message that the update was successful and to reboot. I shut off the Kronos, took out the USB stick, waited about 5 minutes and turned it on. It started normal (red line moving from left to right) and when the line got to about the "S" under the word music an error message popped up...
"SYSTEM STARTUP FAILED
Please disconnect any USB devices and restart"
Well there was no USB device so I shut it off and tried again, same error. Then I put the USB stick back in and rebooted, same message. Then I shut it off removed the USB stick and turned it on and got the same message. This is not the first OS update I have done on a keyboard i have done Nord's and Kurzweil's and most were way more complex but way more successful!
Any ideas would be welcome!!! Thanks!

Re: 1.5 Didn't go so well for me
I'm really sorry that the update didn't work properly. If the system continues to show that message at startup, my suggestion would be to re-install the system from the DVDs, using the "Full Install" option (not Format and Install). Full Install replaces the KRONOS OS code and factory sounds, but leaves all other data on the disk intact.Bdeon28 wrote:Too bad this is my first post. I know that reinstalling is a true inconvenience, and I wish that I had an easier solution. Before doing this, you might wish to contact your Korg Distributor's tech support department, just in case they have another idea when talking with you.

Dan, Thanks for the fast reply. I had a feeling that was what I needed to do next but figured I would ask just in case there was another way to do it. I don't have a USB DVD drive so I will pick one up tomorrow and give it try after work. Not a huge deal for me. I wanted to get one anyone to use with the Kronos. I will post with the process I used and my results as soon as I finish up in case another user has a similar issue. Thanks again!
i am totally frustrated! I unzip the update, try to write to my memory stick (after formatting on my Kronos- quick format-32), and I keep getting the message: Cannot copy pretar. Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name. I have downloaded and unzipped the file several times. HELP!

As I understand, you can't copy the update from your computer to your USB memory stick. Try formatting on your computer and try again. If it fails, copy the ZIP file to your USB memory stick and then unzip the file directly to the USB memory stick.mikesny wrote:i am totally frustrated! Same here. My thumb drive had a number of Apple hidden and/or system files as well as backups of my Kronos (further backed up to my Macbook just not removed from the thumb drive). Went without a hitch. Oh, I also omitted the Manuals folder from the drive as I figured they weren't necessary for the upgrade.irtehyar wrote:fyi for those worried about it: I had other crap on my flash drive, including some K song and program files, mp3 files, and other junk, and it worked fine.
Cheers!

memory stick
I use the same OSX and used a recently purchased 4 gig SanDisk memory stick from office depot and used it without a problem. It may take a few minutes to download the file from Korg, but the installation only took 3 minutes.
Be sure to unzip the file before loading it into the Kronos. My Apples did that automatically. You can tell if the file is still zipped if at the end of the file name you see ".zip".
Hope this helps.

OK! I finally got it installed! I had to use my wife's computer (Windows 7).I'm not sure why mine (Windows XP) wouldn't work, but now that it's done, I'm a happy camper! Thanks everyone for your help! It's nice to know there's someplace we can turn to for help!

From what I'm seeing so far, most people are having very few difficulties in installing the new O.S. I did see however that my wife's antique computer running Windows XP might not be up to the task. Is this true? Also, just how big of a memory stick do I need? I've got a brand new still in the package 4 gig. If I have to I'm sure I can find somebody with a newer computer that I can use for a few minutes. I"m just nervous about doing anything that might mess up my Kronos. We went out on a limb to get it and my wife would kill me!
Thanks a bunch! All help is always greatly appreciated.
It's not really my fault!

I cannot imagine the computer OS/speed should matter. The memory stick should be as big to contain the files. You might check if the files which are on the stick are copied correctly (by checking size or use a dedicated application).jeremykeys wrote:From what I'm seeing so far, most people are having very few difficulties in installing the new O.S. Also make sure the stick is formatted in FAT32 (or even better: format the stick low level on the Kronos before adding the files on it with your PC).
