Disk>Utility>Multi Select>Copy - Slow/No File Path
I dropped a folder with 128 samples on a USB drive last night, went into Disk>Utility
First I tried copying the folder containing the samples from the USB drive to the SSD drive. I selected the folder on the USB, selected a destination folder on the SSD and every single time I got an error massage to the effect of: File Path Does Not Exist.
Second I tried going into the folder, selecting the "Mulit Select" function and then selecting one by one the 128 samples. When I tried this the screen would freeze up for about 5-8 seconds every time I selected an additional file. I gave up as there was no way I would going to get through 128 files using this method.
Are these current bugs that might be fixed in a future update? This first could potentially be a user error, though I am thinking not as I tried several variations on the approach.
The second seem like either a bug or a "processing power" issues.
Has anyone else ran into this? Any fixes or workarounds?
Thanks.

That's my thought, too. The maximum path length, including the file name and all enclosing folders up to the root, is 76 characters.Knightshift wrote:I experienced problems with long filenames and deep folder structures. Could this be a similar problem? How are the names of the files / folders?

Btw - I believe the error message would be "File/path not found." There's a list of all error messages in the back of the Operation Guide (Appendices/Error and confirmation messages), which can sometimes be helpful when troubleshooting.

Thanks for the reply, guys.
I just got off work so I have not had time try the reformatting trick.
I do want to make sure I understand the character limitation. With file characters and folder characters the longest file name add up right to 76 characters. So does the 76 limitation apply to everything within a folder? For example, the copy feature kept giving me the File/path not found error. The folder that I was trying to copy only consisted of 15 characters in total, including drive name, but yet it would not copy.
Thanks for the clarification. I just want to make sure I understand for future reference. I looked in the Ops Guide but it did not give much explanation.

If you try to copy a folder, and one or more of the paths exceeds the limit, that will cause the error you're seeing.
When copying, the destination folder's path also matters.
Finally, note that if folders are nested (that is, if you have a main folder, and then a folder inside of that, and a folder inside of that, etc.), the path includes all of those nested folders.
It would be nice if this limit was larger (or nonexistent). I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi Dan,
is there a chance that this limitation will be gone in future development (upcoming OS)? I had a lot of trouble because of this since from my computer based work I'm used to organize things in many folders and subfolders (project/subproject/different versions) and now have to change my file organisation and naming completely.
I'm using audio backing tracks a lot and usually write lots of information in the filename (name, bpm, versions etc.) and experienced many problems (even freezes where I had to turn the kronos off and on losing my unsaved work) when trying to load files with long filenames.
I talked about it in this thread:

Thx

Thanks for the tips. Renaming everything worked like a charm (both for multi select and folder copy)

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Coincidentally, I filed a bug report about that UI freeze a few days ago. I expect that it will be fixed in the future, and I also hope that the path limit can be extended - but I can't make any guarantees.Knightshift wrote:Hi Dan,
