Korg - thank you, and well done !
Hi -
I too received this letter this morning offering OASYS libraries free of cost. I own 2 OASYS and can now equip the second (spare) one with these new libraries.
I wanted to start a separate thread for two reasons; to:
- Thanks Korg most sincerely for this incredibly generous offer:
Korg - THANK YOU!
- Comment on how important his move is by them:
If you look over this forum, one of the biggest gripes has been the default availability of libraries in Kronos that OASYS owners paid for. Now, it is clear that Korg have read our gripes, and addressed them in a very robust way for OASYS owners including making the libraries free from now, and even offering a discount on the new imminent Kronos libraries to OASYS owners who also bought Kronos.
This to me provides a seamless link between OASYS and Kronos; and is very impressive by Korg. To me, this speaks volumes about their own innate value of OASYS, Kronos and indeed their user base of hardware synthesizers. Its’ clear they are thinking about this, about their legacy and their future; and this bodes very well for the future of synthesis under Korg. For those who have paid for OASYS libraries already, you are rewarded beyond new Kronos owners in the future if you maintain your loyalty by buying a Kronos by getting a discount for the new Kronos libraries. This is a very sophosticated and fair way, in all directions, of addressing how to compensate those whove already paid for OASYS libraries. I'm VERY excited by this move.
Overall, there has been plenty of criticism of Korg - including by myself especially in relation to the way Kronos was released (w.r.t OASYS) - and I have to say; this move by Korg is astounding to me in that it shows that even in a climate of global corporations; Korg are listening to their customers and are capable of behaving in the most generous and human of ways. It is very heartening. In my opinion Korg should be hugely congratulated for this move - and I don't just mean this because I'm getting libraries free of cost - it's far beyond that for the reasons given above.
And it shoudl also be noted that Korg took the time to write to every indicidual OASYS owner - on impressive letterhead - rather than making a general announcment. This shows a level of thought and care unprecedented in musical technology companies. Korg are showing real intent here in indicating the value of their customers.
I accept this reads like "fan boy" commentary - but it isn't - I'm passionate about hardware synthesizers and Korg have demonstrated here a sophisticated and thoughtful approach in attempting to secure their user base and maintain a lineage from OASYS to Kronos; while listening carefully to their users. Whether you like the solution or not - they bothered to come up with a solution and that's the most impressive part of it, to me.
I hope this becomes widely known and sets an example for other hardware manufacturers - but most of all I hope it is successful for Korg in maintaining a large user base, attracting new customer secure in the knowledge they are considered valuable and have a future with their instrument; and that Korg intend being around, making stunning instruments, for some time to come.
Again I'll say it - thank you, and well done, Korg!
Kevin.

Kevin.
This needed to be done .
A toast to korg and it's future endeavors !
Thank You
I agree 100 percent with what Kevin has expressed so eloquently.
I was very surprised when I received the letter of notice from Korg, Japan and signed by Mr. Seiki Kato. It makes me feel like I am Special just for being a Korg customer.
This is a most generous gift, from Korg and all involved, and I am very great-full.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Rick Tucker

Yes KORG indeed, well done!!!
Yes KORG indeed, well done!!!
I've received two letters today from KORG, because I own two OASYS-88. They are already fully expanded, so the letter doesn't give me any advantage, unless I would buy a KRONOS, which I won't.
But it is however a good psychological gesture towards OASYS users, who felt long-forgotten.
Now, the even better gesture would be to release the EP-1 MDS Electric Piano for the OASYS, which does not depend on the SSD streaming technology from KRONOS and would therefore run on the OASYS as well. I would even pay up to 500 US Dollars for the EP-1 Expansion for each of my two OASYS-88.
But I guess, I am just dreaming...

Me too, without any doubts. Good thing-my OASYS is already expanded too, bad thing- I still remember how much I paid for it.Dany wrote:Yes KORG indeed, well done!!!

For my own psychological health's sake, I try desperately to suppress such thoughts....leo200 wrote:...Good thing-my OASYS is already expanded too, bad thing- I still remember how much I paid for it.

another question- if korg anyway decided to do it- why don't to do it BEFORE Kronos release?
A valid point....perhaps Korg weren't expecting such a harsh reaction to the Kronos concept(although I'm baffled as to how they were naive to think it wouldn't)given what it essentially is and from where it came from it was surely obvious from the start it would put the cat amongst the pidgeons for Oasys owners...
Whatever the reasoning behind it ....who cares, they done the right thing by most of us...(maybe they are trying bolster sales of Kronos by trying to dangle the carrot in front of some Oasys owners hoping they might make the
leap of faith with a bonus of discounts toward new libraries)
At least now I can utilise these extra engines and get more potential out of them,I had kind of written off the idea of ever using them properly as out of principle had no intention to pay for them since they dropped support for it,this have given back a little respect I had perhaps lost in them
Thanks Korg

His letter will be on gold leafed paper and written with LARGE CAPS,he'll then tell us how it's the BEST LETTER he's ever read and how he gets BLOWN AWAY by it everytime he READS it so much so he's having THE LETTER cloned into 400 other copies all having 7 different colour FRAMES,One for EVERYDAY of the week AND ENOUGH copies so that HE can stick one to ALL HIS Kronos's AS ITS THE best thing he's ever done
There won't be any photographic proof of his letter NEITHER(like some have scanned theirs) as his entourage of secretaries will all be TOO BUSY organising planning permission legalities to rewire his 80,000 sq ft studio with it's 800 USB wall SOCKETS IN THE attic!!!!!!so they won't be available to take any pictures, but ONCE THE studio is done man,it will restore his STREET CRED,cos at the MOMENT thats In STORAGE along with the SSL 960,000 input Mixer and 88 OASYS and 48 TRITON
Oh and don't expect a reply in the next fifty years as he's too busy to come in here as he's managing his working crew as they START WORK at 5AM but yet still can manage TO SQUEEZE a 600 word ESSAY in between his BUSY SCHEDULE which is still 599 Words too many just to say the word BULLSHIT....

The only 'person' who would be able to create such products is Steve Jobs and Apple, not Korg, unfortunately.
iPhone 1-4
iPad 1-2
Oasys 1-2? No, here Korg calls it "Kronos".
Unwise. Sadly.
I don't understand why its so difficult for other manufacturing companies, to NOT look at Apple and to see how things can or should be done.
I wish Apple would me a synthesizer. All others would immediately become unfriendly museum pieces.
.....Still waiting for the allusive, missing EXf for Oasys.....
