Dear Akos, here is at last my answer that you have requested: I have purchased my first Oasys in 2008 with all the expansions like LAC, MOD-7, Brass EXs and 2 GB RAM. My other second-hand Oasys had already all the mentioned expansions included, except Brass EXs, which the former owner had to authorize for me as part of our contract.Akos Janca wrote:Please answer.Akos Janca wrote:Kevin and Dany, you both have got 2 OASYSes. Have you bought the paid options (MOD-7 etc.) twice?
Best regards

neubauer, OASYS will remain a class act for a long time and after the fever of Kronos is over, the OASYS will be viewed as the class act it is - a top end physical workstation with a stunning array of technologies under the hood. So anyone deciding to keep an OASYS is, in the long run, going to be very glad about it.
But Kronos is, as I've used the term quite a lot recently, jaw-droppingly good. So selling your OASYS for a Kronos is not a bad decision either!! So I do not believe you will regret having sold your OASYS for a Kronos - you are going to be over the moon with your new acquisition. Its extra features are ALL the right ones you'd want to see in the next generation workstation, you are joining a new user community and you'll avail of the updates no doubt to come for the next few years at least. So congratulations on your decision to sell your OASYS and get a Kronos - and take that worried look off your (smiley) face - you'll be like a kid in a candy shop once your Kronos arrives.
Akos - sorry for missing this thread completely and only answering you now - I have all the expansions in my original OASYS and none in the 2nd OASYS (in fact it's still a OS level 1.01, all wrapped up in a duvet (literally) to be used as a spare should my working one go hey-wired on me. I may call it into service in my 2nd music room if Korg provide any sort of deal/package to purchase OASYS EX's at a keen price - but I do want to acquire a Kronos so it would be madness to kit the 2nd OASYS out with expansions costing a not-insubstantial fraction of the cost of a Kronos 61 note. When an instrument becomes very important to my work flow I buy a 2nd one (or more) as a spare, so my project studio (nut house
) has many synths purchased twice. What with the Celtic Tiger over and money tighter these days, this philosophy is rapidly becoming obsolete !!).
Kevin.

I've actually been in the market myself for a new workstation and had been set on buying a Oasys until the Kronos comes out. Now, I guess I'll have to wait until they start shipping and folks put it through the paces to see if it's really all it seems to be. The new piano/ep in the Kronos is making the decision harder for certain but we will have to see.
The reason I thought to post this was while we don't know for certain exactly what Korg will or won't do until it happens, I am certain about one thing, if they are going to support the Oasys anymore, from a sales perspective, this won't happen until two things take place:
1) if the Kronos sales are really low they will assume that Oasys owners are hanging on to their old boards so there may be a market there to further exploit
2) once they feel that all of the folks that bought an Oasys have sold it for a Kronos
It's all dollars and cents... if they release an update now or tell you one is coming then you hold on to your current board and don't jump ship spending new money with the company. If they wait until afterwards then they got all the new money already and now they can go back and extract more money from the legacy folks.
I really don't think it has anything to do with anyone's expectations or doing right by the customer by supporting the old workstation. It's a rough financial market and you got to squeeze every dime out you can however you have to do it.

I believe that Oasys and Kroasys are 2 different markets - that is/was pricewise. Kroasys will be a mass-product compared to the Oasys and Korg won't base its sales-forecasts on current Oasys customers. I think they wouldn't have launched Kroasys at all if there would be a strong connection between the two target groups - at least they would have launched Kroasys in a very different way if they would count heavily on current Oasys customers.

It's very difficult to sell synths (almost anything) these days. Therefore I think Korg do count the 3000 (?) OASYS users, too, who are generally wealthy enough, experienced and satisfied with the O.
If only a third will buy Kronos then it means 1000 sold pieces. I don't think Korg wouldn't like that.

I got tired of reading after a few pages ,so the bottom line is,
I don't think that anyone has fully learned the capabilities of lets say a Trinity less alone an OASYS so what are we talking about? really? upgrade what? does your instrument do what you want? yes? keep it , no? move on.
It's all about money and nothing else, THAT'S LIFE.

One cannot go wrong having either synth, but the KRONOS as we know had some advances in the design because it was released later.
That said, I would never sell my OASYS because of its magical feel and majestic layout. The 10" touchscreen is a big plus for me because I use it a lot and the 8 onboard pads are a nice feature, but what puts it at the top is the superlative KARMA control section.
When you get all of those lights blinking and you are jamming, well, I just didn't get the same feel from playing the KRONOS, although it sounds just as stunning.
My 2007 OASYS has been customized with a black aluminum rear plate.
