Can anybody help me to locate a replacement floppy drive for my i5s keyboard? Or does anyone know if it is possible to fit an internal hard drive instead?

Hi keith..Thanks for the reply. The discs are formatted but there is nothing at all from the floppy drive. No light on front when I insert a disc and no noise from drive.. I definately need a new drive but am having trouble finding one on the internet. Somebody mentioned that you can put a hard drive in instead, but i am not sure if this is true or not and again not sure if it is a standard pc harddrive or a special one..help

I do not know if a hard drive can be placed. However the person I have used to repair (if necessary) my keyboards is a chap called David Houlgate. tel 01273 846789 (Brighton) I am sure that if you gave him a ring he would at least be able to advise you

I5S Floppy drive belt
After buying and fitting a replacement floppy drive from America and paying duty on it before collection I got to thinking seriously about what the problem with these drives really is. I have three units with these floppy drives, 2 i5S keyboards and a I5M which I bought just for the drive. I tried experiments with elastic bands etc and found they just didn't work. I then realized the whole thing depended on a constant speed of the driven plastic wheel, rubber is just no good it goes fast and slow all the time. Rubber bands are made of natural rubber (from a tree) so I though of synthetic rubber, i.e.: inner tubes of bikes etc and bingo, I got a breakthrough. I took an old bicycle tube 28" and simply cut a very thin band straight across it about 2 mm wide. This is very tough and resists stretching, so I had to experiment a bit and when the width is about right it can be stretched over a milk bottle which causes it to take on a much bigger circumference. Leave it a few hours to settle. This band now fits over both pulleys without even stripping the disc drive, just pull it into the space between the plastic wheel and sensor. So far 100% success and really cheap solution. Worth a try, The secret is the type of rubber. I think its neoprene, man made anyway.

I remember reading your entry a few years ago and I hope you have had joy in fixing it. However I am hoping that you, as a fellow iS40 owner you may be able to help me as I have misplaced the disc with the drivers on it and my iS40 will not communicate with my computer I would very much appreciate any help from you or anyone else reading this response.-

My trinitys disc drive crapped out on me yesterday.
After surfing all over the internet looking for a solution, calling everybody I could think of, ebay wanted $225.00 for a new one plus whatever a shop would wnat to install it.
Then I thought wait a minuet, this is a computer part, right?
I called a local computer repair shop and explained my problem.
They said a disc drive is a very standard part.
If you can figure how to remove the disc drive from your trinity, it took me 2 hours. It should have 34 pins for the ribbon plug and 4 pins for the power plug. Well I took it to the shop, showed it to the guy and he said no problem. He reached for a stack of disc drives, mayched it up and said $20 bucks thank you very much. I put it back in and no problem.
I was able to get back all the music I had stored on my discs
