Got a m3-88.. now seriously what about this XS RACK...??????
As some of you already know I got my M3-88 the other day. (Paid $1325 shipped I KNOW WOW!!!!)
Anyway, I'm now in another odd predicament. I sold my Triton Pro X (88 key) so I could make room for another more up-to-date weighted board and I decided on the m3... (pretty much due to the crazy outstanding price that I was able to get it for) I sold my Triton ProX for about $800ish.
I have the m3 now and I absolutely love it SO FAR. But I have started to think, do I still really need this Motif XS Rack... I could easily sell it for around $935 or so on ebay and after fees etc, I could probably clear about $850ish. To be honest I haven't really spent alot of time with it since Feb. I've been able to use some of the bread and butter sounds in some quick sequences just to learn my way around the module, but nothing so serious as to make me be attached to it. However, I did only pay $500 for it and seeing that I do OWN it... would it be better to just keep it... (just since I have it?)
Sometimes when I consider everything, it seems like it's more trouble to try to force instruments into your normal setup/routine, just to satisfy your mind and say "I'm using it... so I should keep it". And you go through more set up and learning curve than actually making music.... (I know someone out there knows what I'm talking about!?!?!?!?)
I'm really really torn though about the Rack XS. But then again, how many sounds do you REALLY NEED? LOL
Then there is this whole thing about, well I purchased a 2 unit rack case to hold the Rack XS and my Roland p-330 sound module, and if I sell the XS rack, what do I put in the rack to take its place?... I'd also considered selling the p330 piano module depending on if the m3 will let me load the entire soundfont into memory (really just 3 of the 8 instruments are the only ones I'm gonna load). But if it allows me to load all three of the soundfont files (exact sample replicas of the p330), then there won't be a need for the p330 any more. So I'd most def be able to sell it, which would push me even closer to selling the Rack XS (because it would be alone in that 2 unit rack case....) lol
What to do... What to do...????
I'm also gonna post this over on the Roland Clan Forums and maybe the Motifator site, just to get a wide range of opinions
Thanks in advance for ANY AND ALL OPINIONS.

That's really YOUR decision.
I have an M3-88, a Motif Rack with PLG150-AN virtual analog board, a 1" Novation A-Station, and although I don't have much time and mostly use the M3 only, I will keep all of them and even consider to buy a Waldorf Blofeld or Access Virus, too.
Have you ever tried to let KARMA control your other synths? You will be (positively) surprised!

apex....
Does the M3-88 have Ram expansion or Radias expansion installed?
If not, then I would sell the XS Rack and get the 256MB RAM and Radias Expansion boards for M3.... IF you are not already dependent on XS Rack sounds and polyphony, which looks you are not reading your post above.
What to load into the 2 unit rack after selling XS Rack? Get a stereo compressor.

Roland Fantom-G6 ARX1, Korg M3-m exb-Radias, Korg Z1-18v, Roland MC-808, Roland MC-909, Korg microKontrol.
Shakil my 256MB RAM & Radias Board expansion will be here today!!!! I am going to keep the 256 RAM Expansion but almost 100% sure that I'm selling the Radias card, (I just really really don't see the need for it). I do mostly gospel, RnB, Hip-Hop sounding music, and then it's ALL mostly LIVE. After watching numerous demos of the Radias I just don't see how I'd use it enough to warrant keeping it.Shakil wrote:apex....

I purchased the m3-m with the 256 RAM and Radias board for $900 maybe a little under. I'm selling the m3-m and the Radias board in one package and keeping the 256 RAM board.
Just asking but how would it be a good thing to sell an entire rack synth (such as the XS rack) and then replace it with a RAM Expansion? LOL please explain my friend.
I haven't ever really thought about using the XS rack and polyphony expansion... that would be a really really good use of it.... for I'm not sure that I run out of polyphony enough to forget about a $900ish sale to increase it.... know what I mean?

You think Radias is irrelevant to RnB and HipHop?!!! I don't.apex wrote:Shakil my 256MB RAM & Radias Board expansion will be here today!!!! RAM expansion is REQUIRED to let you load soundfonts of considerable size, which you are planning to do... Aren't you? I didn't know you already had the RAM expansion. XS rack is not a sampler... I would sell XS Rack to get RAM Expansion and Radias board, if I didn't have cash.
hmm... so you are selling M3-m with RAM and Radias and got M3-88 keyboard and keeping the RAM.
About the XS rack, ask yourself.. and make a list of everything you can do with it that you can't do with M3.
Roland Fantom-G6 ARX1, Korg M3-m exb-Radias, Korg Z1-18v, Roland MC-808, Roland MC-909, Korg microKontrol.
See yall be messing me up!!!!!!
I have my mind made up and then.... LOL
um... I was set on selling that Radias. I just don't see what it's good for. I really don't... maybe I need better demos or something... cause the stuff on youtube, just don't make me say "I gotta have that..."
Shakil, yes I bought an m3-88 with no expansions. $1325 shipped.
Then I bought a m3-m with Radias AND EXB 256MB for like $990 shipped. I just wanted the RAM AND Radias from the m3-m and then I was just gonna sell the m3-m with no expansions. But then I decided to see the Radias... (just cause, and to increase the profit.) Now yall are saying to keep it?
MAKE ME!!!!!!! LOL!!!! Make me understand why...
thanks

apex...
have you listened to the demos on KORG website? The youtube sound is not all that great to decide.
Listen to Radias based KARMA combis.... Listen to samples on Karma-labs website...
You haven't answered my question..... what do you think you will not be able to do on M3 with Radias and RAM expansion that you do on Motif XS rack.

Man there are some bread and butter sounds that I really like on that XS rack. Like EPs, (I don't really like the main acoustic piano sound as much, now that I've heard that grand on the M3)... (just too sweet)Shakil wrote:apex...

I like the strings on the XS and there are some really really nice synth brass sounds, (I guess the stuff that the Radias is a beast at)... I do love lush and thick sounding synth sounds...I love to play them and then push the modulation switch forward and make that leslie type sound on a synth sound. Yesterday I was playing through the basses two days ago, and I like the electric bass sounds too... probably could get just as much use out of the Fantom G's stuff and the m3 as well... especially if I decide to keep that radias card.
(by the way, I couldn't get the soundfont files to load right... so not sure what I'm gonna be able to do as far as that is concerned...)
