I have tried the DI20 and did not notice any noise. In fact, it will convert your unbalanced to balanced signal. You will get a good boost to your audio output.

I'm not a pro sound tech and I have only used DI boxes with guitars to bring into a mixing board ..... I haven't a clue here how I would set this up for the Wavedrum unless I was going to run it through a mixer and out to speakers. All I have for my home/hobby use is a couple of M-Audio powered monitors that I would love to have decent volume sound out of from my Wavedrum but that just isn't happening.

But ... thanks for your suggestion of the DI Box and if I ever put a powered mixer in my home system I'll give that a try.

I would be more likely to go for a M-Audio Audio Buddy over the Behringer for the additional fine volume control . I cannot say the quality of either would be any better, just my preference if I had to make a semi-educated guess. Having another thing to plug into power would be annoying regardless...but it's that or chew through batteries!

The Audio Buddy can be aquired for anywhere from 20 to a hundred bucks on ebay, less than 100 in stores. This is just an example, there may be other products that would work just as well.

I'm thinking that this (link below) might work with the DI mentioned above. I like that it's small for my home. Any opinions?

My guess is that just the above mixer would give you all the volume boost you need without the DI, assuming that using the mixer for that much boost isn't going to drasticly raise your noise floor. (which is possible!) If there were noise problems at high gain, then you could try with the DI box as well.
For the price, why not try? Reviews say it works well. I wouldn't count on it for touring or anything but if you're just playing for your own enjoyment or coffee shop gigs then you should be golden.
I would wait and get more than my opinion though...

Re: wavedrum low volume output

tablaninja wrote:korg added a 2X volume output option after the first batch shipped. the first instructions i received from korg, the second one is from another user.

To access the output control on the WAVEDRUM, please take the following steps:
Hold Bank while powering up
Display should say "1"
Set to "2" with the value dial
Press write 2x
Re-cycle power

if that doesn't work try this...

Hold Bank while powering up
Display should say "1"
Set to "2" with the value dial
Hold Bank and press write
Re-cycle power
(re-do to check that "2" is permanent)

if that doesn't help, you may have an early wavedrum and it needs to go to an authorized korg repair location to have the firmware updated. take your receipt and it should be free.

good luck
Hi.

It seems I have got one of the earlier models as these instructions don´t work for me.

The output level of my WD-X is very low, even on the headphones.

Unfortunately KORG Germany don´t offer direct support for an update.
They say, I´ll have to send it back to my dealer and let him do it.

This would add at least 10 days delivery time from me to the dealer, from there to Korg and vice versa.
That´s very annoying, as we decided to use the WD for our current recordings.
I can´t take the risk that it doesn´t return in time, as we have booked the studio already for the last week of February.

Maybe I will try to return it and get a new one.
But I don´t know if the next series has already arrived in Germany.
The first shipment had been sold out almost instantly in most shops.

Another reason for a return is the bad quality of the head.
I have played for about 5 hours on it mostly with my fingers and the head is loosing more and more fibres.

Maybe the REMO replacement head would be a better option.

I hope there won´t be too many updates in the future.
Maybe it wasn´t the best decision not to add a USB port and a software editor with a firmware update option.
I would have paid 100 bucks more for this.

regards

Is there a way of finding out what firmware you have on your wavedrum? I know that some of you are saying that the 2x trick isn't working and that you will have to take it to Korg for upgraded firmware .... but .... before doing that it would seem wise to be sure that you in fact do not have the upgraded firmware with the 2x support. I did the 2x trick and notice a little better volume but not a lot. My documents came with an insert with the 2x instructions so I assumed that meant that I had the upgraded software otherwise I might be inclined to think I didn't.

How To Change The Output Mode Level

Post by crowdedbeats »

How To Change The Output Mode Level

The WAVEDRUM offers two selectable output levels. Depending on which mode the WAVEDRUM is in, the output levels for both headphones and output L/R differ as follows:

. Normal Mode: This is the factory default setting.
. x2 Mode : Compared to the Normal Mode, the output level is twice as loud as the Normal Mode. Note that, regardless of the position of Volume knob, some distortion may occur when the WAVEDRUM is hit harder.

HOW TO CHANGE THE OUTPUT MODE

1. Hold down the BANK button, and turn the power on.

The display will indicate briefly , and then indicate the current output level setting 1.00 or 2.00

2. Select the output level by turning the VALUE knob:

1.00 = Normal Mode
2.00 = x2 Mode

3. Hold down the BANK button, and press the WRITE button to save the setting.

4. Turn the power off and then on again.

CONFIRMING THE OUTPUT LEVEL

When the x2 Mode is selected, the LEDs 1-4 will light for about 0.5 seconds right after the power is turned on. When the Normal Mode is selected, the LEDs will not light.

Also, the output level can be identified by doing the step 1 of the Procedures above.[/b]
