Convince me to get an Electribe

I understand generally why they're pretty sexy. But I use FL Studio and I'm worried that if I get an ESX, it's basically just paying for a $500 version of something I already have (since FL has a sequencer, sampling, ETC.) So what would you say in response to this? Especially from any other FL users.

Also, I do use Live a bit but not nearly as much as FL, so I could use the ESX with Live but I'm still learning about Live so it may not work out that well... Also gotta try downloading Reason Adapted, but the disk that came with my padKontrol won't load, so... Yeah that's another story though.

Do you have any other hardware samplers, sequencers, synths?

The only reason you would have an Electribe would be to get away from the computer or expand on an existing hardware rig. FL and Live can do pretty much everything the lower Korg product line can do and usually better.

When I work with my EMX, it's because it helps me focus because it's limited in what it can do. I don't have 6 oscillators or an unlimited supply of sample banks. I have to work with what I have in front of me, but I'm not distracted by a zillion other things like I would on a computer screen. Then again, I have ADHD

Well it essentially boils down to what your preferences are. With the ESX you will get one of the best analogue style sampling interfaces out there currently on the market (aside from the Elektron Machinedrum). Also if your into twisting knobs, pushing buttons and moving sliders, all in one self contained unit, than the ESX will be a dream come true for you

If none of that tickles your fancy, than I dont know what to say to you.
IMHO though the ESX is a good step in the right direction if your wanting to add some hardware to your rig.

The knob twisting is fun. It's nice to have a dedicated knob attached to the actual device without having to map anything and constantly look over to the monitor to see the value change.

And another reason to consider: you get an Electribe for the same reason you get any other hardware or software gadget - it is a unique sound - another color for your sonic palette.

It is great as a stand alone drum machine software and making loops. As a VST, it does eat up CPU, and I'm hesitant to use it in my Live project (I'll render it as loops and import it, instead, but Live itself can cover most of what the Maschine can do anyway). But Maschine is foremost a software instrument with a USB controller. The hardware does nothing on it's own.

And, as I explained in another post, the sample record is not well implemented in terms of letting the user name the sample in it's database. Hopefully that will get fixed in future updates.

When I get my ESX it will be a part of my hardware rig so I can't put the two on the same playing field.

Hi Cyberwave, I would say to get the ESX cos it's a lovely piece of kit, I have the older brothers in EA, ER and ES Mk 11's and I bought them all secondhand and never regretted it, I'm sure you will not regret it. If your Disc wont load I would contact Korg Support and see if they can help, also contact Propellerheads to see if you can register your Reason Adapted software, btw I love Reason 4 and Record they're both really good music software apps!

With an Electribe you can quickly and easily create sounds and patterns that then can be loaded into FL or Ableton for playback and further mangling. Then you can also incorporate the Electribe into your live performance setup.
