Korg SV-1 Stage Piano info

Most of the samples are all-new, and the voice engine is taken from our Pa products with the DNS architecture. So we have a huge pool of oscillators to work with and a lot of new voice characteristics like key-off's that track the decaying level of the currently sustained sound, and other cool things.

The acoustic piano sound has something like 19 oscillators if I remember, the "tine" EP (gotta watch the legal issues here!) is a 7-way velocity switched source with more elements like key-off samples, noises and other elements.

The organs are sampled, but include sampled leakage and other elements. But I hear you - modeling is certainly are more controllable/interactive method. But combing engines would have been more expensive. And we chose to not over-emphasize organs for a weighted-action product.

That said the Vox, Italian (rhymes with Marbisa!) and the American tube organ (the same classic played by Garth Hudson - who we sampled it from!) are very cool.

Look through the list of instruments provided - we went deep into each category to resurrect a lot of classic keys from the past.

We'll be posting more artist performance demos over the next month or so. We've got some great players and legends playing sounds for you.

Wow, you guys just won over my Dad who hasn't played since the M1 days! He will buy one when available, he said he hasn't been this excited about an instrument since the M1, and coming from him that's saying a lot. Way to go KORG!!!

For those who don't follow other forums, there was a thread on a different forum a couple weeks ago about the *BIG* Roland countdown to their exciting new products. When the 10 products were finally revealed, they were basically all ridiculed. Some were the same old crap that Roland puts out and others were just plain junk.

It's nice to see Korg still coming out with fresh ideas year after year.

Either way I'm am glad to see Korg up the ante and make some REAL competition in the market. It's about time! Maybe Hammond will take notice as well, and release an XK-1 that doesn't suck (Meaning the non-organ stuff).

I'm inclined to think that SV-1 and XK-1 are meant to gig together!

EPs and pianos from SV-1, Hammonds (with its dedicated organ action) from XK-1, bliss!

Is SV-1 multitimbral or not? I would presume it is not, but I did not find the info about this anywhere.

October 09 “Sound on Sound” give an exclusive and excellent review of the SV1.

Their review could not be more positive:

..."The acoustic and electric pianos" are outstanding..."

Here's their summary:
..."The SV1 provides the best emulations of acoustic pianos, electro-mechanical pianos and electronic pianos that I have yet heard on a single instrument. It also offers a range of additional sounds such as organs and strings. But it's hard to decide whether these are a bonus or a distraction. It you're in the market for a stage piano, you mustn't buy anything until you have tried this"

That's a pretty good endorsement.

I must say after I saw this thing and watched all the youtube videos and factory mp3s I was having a gut wrenching laughing fit. Its so funny and serious at the same time. First look at the on off switch - from 1930, and of course the tube. The case is like my old Cordovox organ which I still have in storage.


And the front layout and effect groupings are a direct copy of the Nord Electro brand. But then I read the Electric piano layers are 7 layer velocity. Wow that is serious - so serious its funny. On the mp3 the 70s string Arp solina/omni has a nice deep phase shifter, nice touch. I wonder how the tube compares to the Nord electronic tube simulation. I read the SV-1 has 512mb, is that upgradeable with new rom wavs?

Way to go Korg. One thing I notice on youtube is Nord Comparisons with Rhodes Pianos stacked, testing note for note, phrase for phrase on how accurate the Nord is. Id like to see the same done with the Korg.
