Buttons not working: function of V1 / V2?

The Karma i bought seems to be in pristine shape, the guy hardly used it. The right direction button as well as the down (of up and down) buttons are spotty though. They don't work, or only intermittently. The keyboard doesn't show signs of wear... maybe the guy wore them out... but could this be a function of its being Version 1 still?

well those buttons should work in version 1 obviously, but it won't hurt anyone if you install the newest OS to it... I think though that you should take it to service... I don't think that the buttons are worn out, but the contactsurfaces are dirty...

That's not an issue with the OS, rather a typical mechanical problem with those buttons.
I had several of mine replaced by a service tech a while back, and need to have a couple more replaced sometime soon.
