Same key keeps breaking!

Post by PepiMartinez »

My E flat key toward the top of my keyboard has broken about 4 times in the last year. I am a very light player, don't play that specific key often, I store it in a hard shell case, and only use it for practice about once a week to improve / create patches.

Is this a known issue? It's about $100 each time it break to get it fixed, and I'm stating to think that, while I love the sounds, I can't afford to keep getting this fixed.

My Triton last revision was a 70 € one, and included all switches replaced and a F sharp new key.
I think your dealer is not being very honest...

Keys don't break unless your rough with them or there is an accident.
Are you dragging your finger up and down the keys or something else that is generating a side to side motion.

Regards
Sharp.

I beat the snot out of my keys and drag may hands across them more than I would like to admit. I probably do it 100 times every night I play out.

I have yet to break a key. There are some that make a clacking noise now (which are looser than the rest) but none have broken.

Something's up with maybe how they are fixing it? I'd definitely go someplace else or learn to fix it yourself. The keys are only a few bucks a piece...

Nope, if I do, I stay on the whites.

I'd like to learn to fix it myself because it seems to be a defect in my keyboard, but I've yet to find a repair manual or anything like that. I'd have to think its something wrong with how its being fixed at this point, however, the person I bring it to is telling me it's pretty straight forward.

It's something that's just incredibly frustrating. Is it possible that the spine is the issue? Is there something that my repair person is missing?

Edit: As a reference, I'm in Central NJ (New Brunswick Area). If anyone is around this area, do you know a Service Center that you trust?

PM me your email address. I just happen to have the service manual for your Triton...

I called a couple service centers and everyone gives me the $100 quote. 1.5 hours to open it, $10 for the key. I looked at the wiring diagram (thanks to McHale, who was nice enough to send it over) and this is not a job I can do on my own.

I think it's coming down to either (A) the person I normally bring it to just doing a poor job or (B) my keyboard is defective.

I say get yourself a piano (hammer style) midi controller for under $200...

***That way you won't have to be shelling-out benjamins on E flat.
