Question latency problem

Hi fellows,

since I changed to another notebook, (1.8GHz mobile), I'm dealing
with 15ms latency on sampleplayers.
With my old now defect Gericom notebook I achieved 7 to 9ms,
that was pretty good.
As an interface I am forced to use "DirectSound",
When using just ASIO in the Interface window nothing will be heard.
Output is set to Channel 1 and 2 USB AudioCodec that's an
external Audiocard - same as used before. The USB Soundcard utilizes
an ASIO2KS driver from Steinberg.
I tried also with ASIO4ALL but that is'nt functioning - two tones,
one after the other instead of just one

Have tried all various settings but only "DirectSound" Interface
works properly but with 15ms - 14 already causes distorted tones.

Any idea how to solve the problem? Would be very grateful for help.

Do you not have specific ASIO drivers for your soundcard?

When I first got my Creative Audigy soundcard (a long time ago now) I found that the default ASIO drivers (the ones included with Cubase, I guess) were as useless as the ones you mention (probably the same drivers). But after I had installed the specific driver (which, for me, was called something like "CreativeASIO"), everything was fine.
