Korg M1, key won't sound.

Post by bpm938 »

i've got an M1 all taken apart in pieces in my living room. There's a C note that won't sound. I've taken the key bed apart and the circuit strip that's attached to the key bed and look at it from underneath. I see nothing wrong with the mechanical working of the metal contact strips, no scratches on the circuitry or anything. The only thing that might be an issue is the little resistor that goes with that key. I measured it with a multimeter and it's resistance reads JUST a little bit more than the rest do. It reads about 1.07 Mohms as opposed to an average of .998 or something like that. I don't think that enough of a variance to say that something's wrong with the resistor. Does anybody know of what could possibly be causing this?! Am I looking in the wrong place? i've air sprayed all around the keyboard. Everything looks clean. I don't know what could be wrong with it.

look for poor solder connections on the key contact itself, if you're sure the contact is ok. Since only one key isn't working, the problem has to be the contact or a connection on that contact board.

I looked very carefully at the solder points and they look fine. I could always try and touch it up with a solder iron and let it cool again to make sure. I do get worried that the tiny little resistor might burn up in the process. I've got a standard little walmart solder iron with only one heat setting.
