EMX - KP3 - PC - Mixer hookup problem

Hey peeps,

Ok I know there is a sticky on midi but it doesn't seem to cover my problem so I'll give this a go here.

I've got a PC running ableton 7. This is connected via usb to my KP3 and have set my KP3 to receive midi tempo. No problems there.

I have then connected my KP3 to my ELectribe (KP3 midi out to EMX midi in). What I want to achieve is to have ableton send tempo to the KP3 (which it does) and for the KP3 to forward this information to my Electribe. I have set the clock to Ext on the EMX however when I try to play a pattern there is no sound.

I can play notes with the 1-16 keys on the emx but what Im after is for the EMX to be synced up to my ableton via my KP3.

It seems as if the KP3 isnt transmitting the tempo message to my electribe but I dont have a clue how to check this. Any ideas?

This setup may seem strange to you but Im not looking to route sounds from ableton into my KP3, i have the PC connected to a channel on my mixer and the KP3/EMX to another one - but I need them to be synced obviously.

Maybe this should go in the KP3 forums actually

I'm not sure but a think I have had a similar problem, it seems the KP3 only forwards a clock signal but no start/stop information. It's always looping anyway so why would it right? That cpould be the reason why your EMX isn't starting...

Maybe some KP3 expert could answer this? Maako?

kp3 midi out is not the same as midi thru.... what happens is the clock syncs up so you're listening to the kp3 clock which is now a slave to ableton's... but you can't forward the other events through it. You need either another interface or take pc midi out to electribe midi in, and electribe's midi thru to the kp3 midi in....
