help! (creating keyboard splits)

Post by ditzie »

I haven't had my korg for very long and am trying to split the keyboard. According to my manual the instructions are on page 60. I've read it a hundred times but still can't figure out how to do that. I just want to be able to have 2 different sounds split on my keyboard...one sound one one half of the keyboard and a different sound on the other half. does anyone know how to do that easily? thanks!

I've had mine for a couple weeks and have the same problem! I'm not finding any forums in here that really address the problem. I haven't tried this one yet:

but I'm hoping it works when I get home. The manual is definitely very difficult. Someone please help!

I am not sitting by my Korg at the moment but it is really pretty simple.

When in Combi mode, go to the menu and enter the "KEYZ" section I believe. Once here you can assign the notes to which each of the 8 patches corispond. I can check later to the exact...

tr61 split

I've managed to enter the "KEYZ" section and figured out how to find two sounds and assign the different parts of the keyboard, but now the problem is, once I've assigned the two sounds to two halfs of the keyboard, I can only hear one of my sounds. I've got a bass sound on the bottom and an EP on the top. I'm not getting any sound out of the EP part. Not sure why. Any ideas?

Sounds like you need to check that the Timbre is set to INT (Timbre Status), not OFF or EXT, and that it is also on MIDI channel 1 like your first timbre.

Once you've got them both sounding your next important area is to look into their Effects routing. You have one Insert Effect which can be used to color the sound, I usually consider which of the two sounds have the most important IFX character when playing it in Program Mode, and them Copy that IFX into the Combi.

Then you can select your MFX, it's common to put a reverb onto MFX 2 and send each sound to it in varying degress using the MFX Sends, but MFX1 is "up for grabs". Again, checking out the sounds in Program Mode can really help, and don't forget that you can always copy an IFX into an MFX, so if both of your sounds had critical IFX you can use your MFX to help.

An Insert FX and a MFX (which is really a "Send" effect) are bussed differently, since on a Send FX you'll never get 100% wet - it's always a blend of dry signa and Wet, but it still works fine for everything except compressors, and critical EQs.

So as a recap - studying the FX for each Program will help you decide how to "spend" your Combi FX, and knowing you can copy an effect from any location to any other location helps.

Let me know if you got things working.

Regards,

Jerry
