Good enough speed and space on my computer?

Post by fitless »

I'm learning this stuff slowly, but I need advice. Interested in mixing but I need to know if the computer I have will be adequate.

It has AMD Athlon 64 X 2 dual core processor, 5600 + (does that 5600 mean rpm?)
280 GHz, 200 GB RAM.

I plan to save for MOTU 828 and I'm working with Cubase SE and a Korg Trinity plus.

Sorry for the extremely basic questions, but I could use some help. I am planning to set up basic recording and mixing equipment until I can upgrade...but I have a feeling it will be a while before I need to upgrade.

Thanks for any info you can pass along!

with this power you can conquer the world...

seriously... the hard drive is too slow but if you don't work with too many tracks it can do the work...

Thanks! Does that 5600 mean the rpm? I'll probably be working with only a few tracks at a time.

What do you think of the MOTU 828? That will be my big purchase.

I was kidding... I never saw a computer with such a processor and so many ram modules installed... you should rewrite here the right numbers... or maybe I'm missing somethin (I'm under mac platform)
anyway yes 5600 are RPM you need a 7200 at least for audio production.

I was able to get more info on my hard drive...200 GB, 8 MB cache, 7200 rpm SATA drive. Whoo hoo!

Gotta teach those piano lessons so I can buy the other equipment I need.

Thanks for the help!
