pretty much you should narrow down the problems. Plug your guitar into an amp and see if it it makes the sound it should. if it does, try cranking the volume when plugged into the tuner. As fas are software is concerned I have an interface that works pretty well, hence why the px4 and pocket pod are still options... the USB doesnt make or break anything. I'm more wondering about the general sound quality. if you had to would you use this thing live? or in a garage jam?
