Kronos as a reverb/effects processor for analogue gear?

Post by EXer »

Has someone tried to use the Kronos as a reverb/effects processor for analogue gear like a Moog Phatty or a Voyager?

How does it sound?

Sina,

I need to draw on your OASYS knowledge bro and ask a VERY stupid question:

I know that I route let's say my Juno or JP-8000 (I know not true analogs but VERY limited effects) through the Kronos, but here is where I am confused: What if I want a certain patch on the Juno or JP8000 to have some nice reverb but I still want the FX in a given Kronos patch to sound the same. In essence, can Kronos act as a sort of independent FX processor?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Ahimsa,
Vlad

Just to back up Sina here - I recently ran my T3 and Radias (L/R for each) through the OASYS.

I was amazed at the extra dimensions offered by simply applying the O Fx on their input. Also adds a richness I like too!

If you go into Combi mode you will see there's a tab "Audio In/Sampling".

Deselect the Global settings checkbox and then the page becomes active.

You can then choose which Fx route you want the audio (external keyboard) to use. You can also set the send level to the Master Fx.

But here's the thing. You can set up an echo or distortion effect (for example) on IFX8 - let's assume that IFX8 is not used by the Combi you're playing. You then select your audio to go to IFX8 (in the Bus Select row) and there you go!

You have your combi untouched in terms of effects (ie the Fx settings remain unchanged for your combi) but you now have your audio source going through the independent Fx :D

Works exactly the same way in Seq mode so you can record your audio with the Fx.

Stunningly good Korg thinking and it works brilliantly.

Sina and Cello,

Thanks so very much!!! I wish I had some wisdom to impart to you two, but never having owned the Big O I am but a mere novice! :)

Isn't there a problem if all you want is say reverb and delay on the audio in all the time? There's no way to do that right?

>If you want Reverb and Delay all the time, route your audio inputs in Global Mode to the effects that use Reverb and Delay and keep the "Use Global Setting" checked in every Program, Combi and SEQ slot you use.

I saw that, but it's pretty much the same thing. I assume you need to save the patch for each one.

I used to do something like this, but I gave up because sometimes I would be using a patch and it didn't have the effects set. Not good for spur of the moment things.
