Load PCM to a set without overwriting...

Post by BR »

I have a complete set (with samples, PCM, etc.) already installed in my keyboard and I have 40 MB of available RAM memory.
I just want to add a sound that comes with some PCM to my set (size 14MB).
When I try to load this sound from flash drive I see it has two folders Sound and PCM. I can open Sound folder which has USER01.PCG and open it which has some sounds and select where to load into keyboard, no problem with this step.

My problem is with PCM. I want to load the PCM to the available RAM memory location without overwriting the existing PCM in my keyboard (my existing set). I noticed when a PCM is highlighted, there is no option to choose where (location) to load. We have to load all PCM together without knowing where exactly they will go to be loaded!

Simply how can I add only a sound (that has PCM/PCG) without overwriting the existing PCM in my keyboard?
Thanks for any advice.

It will not overwrite it but just add to it. The PCM loading is "smart" in that it knows not to overwrite whats already there.
The procedure for loading is either to load the whole set or as you said drill down to the sound name and then load - there is no need to do anything else as the PCM will load if needed.
But please backup (Save All and Full Resource) before loading any set.

Reuben, thanks for your input.
As you mentioned, I did first time by loading only the User.PCG, to the to the available user location, but when I played some of the sound they did not sounded correctly comparing when I did the same process by loading the PCM too and some of the percussion samples used in my customized style disappeared.

So if I understood well what you said, I need just to load the User.PCG and not loading the PCM? Is that correct?
If yes, so the PCM stayed useless in my flash drive?
Thanks

I have loaded sound sets on my Pa3x that include PCM simply by Opening the set and loading the Sound names. When I do this it has always added to the PCM and not overwritten it. I have never tried loading the PCM seperately or even the User1 bank as a whole so I am not sure of the outcome with this procedure. It should work the same on the Pa 900 I think.
Cheers,

I could just load the sounds without deleting any existing PCM.
Thanks for your help.

Hi BR,
I am new to Korg so asking again please. Shall I then ignore .PCMs ?

I have MULTISMP , PCM, SOUND, STYLE folder. Drilling down to PCM folder I can see many RAM.PCM file. while in SOUND i see one .PCG file.

Just loading .PCG is enough, and it wont overwrite ?

Please give me few steps.
I am learning - Everyday !

Swapnanil Sinha,
It worked for me once for a style but it didn't work for others 2 or 3 styles.
I replied already regarding this issue in the same topic opened by yourself, so we can keep hope to find a solution, see the link below:
