Hard drive
The pa3x 76 comes with a hard drive. Can anyone tell me the capacity of this hard drive? The literature, etc. doesn't say. Thanks.

Hi Dimitris
Did you notice any difference?
Cheers
Pete
Thought about doing this to mine but couldn't figure what the benefit would be.I have changed it with an SSD 120GB
Did you notice any difference?
Cheers

The drive it comes with is a slow 5200rpm economy unit. SSD uses less power and is 50x faster. The biggest difference I noticed was transferring files to and from the PC via the USB-PC mode.
Mine is 80GB SSD.
On a side note, none of my PC's actually now use spindrives. All are SSD, including my studio rig.
Korg Hardware: PA3X / K61P
I hope they REALLY work hard on making the internal data pipe much faster on the next generation of Korg arrangers...
In fairness, sure, upping the computer/arranger transfer speeds helps a BIT, but let's face it - what we REALLY want is to be able to load up samples on the gig or at home QUICKLY from the internal disk. And going to an SSD doesn't help that hardly at all, because the data pipe from the disk into the arranger's sample memory is almost 90's (maybe even 80's) in its implementation!
We live in an age where computers load up GB sized sample sets in the blink of an eye. We even have a Korg keyboard that can read samples directly off the HD (Kronos and siblings). That the arrangers they make are still saddled with Jurassic technology is not helping the acceptance of the type...

In a latest Mac/PC i7 3,8 GHz system , you can see the speed difference of an IDE HD of 80 Mb/sec and a latestElektroman wrote: The drive it comes with is a slow 5200rpm economy unit. SSD uses less power and is 50x faster.

generation SATA3 SSD with 550 Mb/sec write speed , where peripheral speed there is high !
In a PaSeries with the very outdated single CPU & peripheral speed ( no matter of sata drivers) , the 3Gb sata3 SSD
beneficiary high speed can't be supported , and do not expect to see the real speed difference between two drives !
Therefore the real difference of choosing an SSD there is essentially to get rid of mechanical/magnetic moving parts
of an HD and minimize data lost.

The difference in speed feel is 15%-20% in loading/saving.
Try a Kingston SSD because with the Sandisk I got errors!!!

Dimitris
