I am about to buy a used M50 88, and I have just discovered that apparently they have a so called "capacitor issue.

Can anyone advise if it is one that affects ALL m50's made, a select series of serial numbers, or is it just random?

I got one of the first M50s and have had no problems with it except for the Chord buttons I REALLY liked but two got pushed through while still in warranty but had more important problems to deal with. Easy to fix and was going to replace them with different buttons but its still on my "to do" list. I remember hearing about the capacitor issue but I've had no issue after several years of playing it. Great sounding keyboard but IMO the 61 key @ 15 lbs was the better option as there is nothing that small and light weight that sounds as good IMO and it supports poly AT via midi from a better controller. Can't see having an 88 keyboard adding weight and taking up so much space without even having channel aftertouch. Especially with some of the deals I've seen on 88 key Fatar midi controllers with CH AT. But I see you in AU so maybe a lot different. I passed up a Fater 88 key controller that was almost new for $200 that was a 10 minute drive away. If the M50 works I would guess it's not affected. Caps are known to have bad runs manufacturing and as I recall a few bad caps got through. But after all this time if the unit had one of them the owner would have likely discovered it by now IMO. But you never know... you could become a victim of the "Pauli effect"
