M50 61 severe noise in the output

Post by brianmann01 »

Korg M50-61. Main Issue: Severe distortion. Suspect: either corrupted ROM samples or there is a problem with the output stage. Symptoms: The keyboard powers up, touchscreen and all buttons and functions work 100%. The unit is in excellent physical condition, BUT When any of the sounds or sequences are played, the sound can be heard but it is awash in noise. some of the sounds can be identified but others are just noise. It affects BOTH right and LEFT channels and the headphone out. Treatment thus far: I have upgraded the OS to 1.1.0. I have also performed a hard reset. in addition, I have opened the unit up and looked at the output board for cold solder, broken traces, etc. I have hit a couple with the soldering iron to reflow the joints. Obviously, that step did not fix the issue. I was looking for bulging capacitors as well, but at this point, the board looks great. I have not pulled the main board yet nor have I purchased the service manual. I know there was another thread on here with a similar problem but it trailed off and I am hoping someone else has seen the issue or know of a solution. BTW: I purchased this keyboard knowing it has issues.
