Looping problems

Post by kevinhmr »

Hi there. I wonder if anyone can help me. I'm trying to create a loop on the Korg M-50. The loop is simply the piano pattern at the beginning of Tubular Bells. The meter is 4/4 and I have set the quantization to high. However, I can't get the loop measure to finish where I want it to. It seems to be part way through a measure at the point where I want it to end. In other words, the end of the measure includes a gap which sounds like a pause when I try and loop the section.

I hope this makes sense and would be extremely grateful for any guidance. Thank you in advance :-) Kevin

You probably just have to time your playing to the tempo. You could slow the tempo down, and try to play this part slowly.

The time signature for Tubular Bells is a combined 9/8-7/8 which doesn't easily lend itself to looping.

That would actually make it two bars of 4/4, which would be simple?
Going just from memory I'd say it's 7/8 and 5/4 (I could easily be wrong though). You can actually preprogram the time changes. Make sure to check exactly which you need, if you program them first you will be able to get a good loop. Your problem right now is that the sequencer always needs to count to four even if you already finished your pattern.

Thank you all for your replies, all of which make perfect sense and at least have stopped me racking my brains as to what "I was doing wrong".

Thanks also for the speed of your replies, much appreciated :-)

Best wishes, Kevin
