I upgraded to OS 1.62. The new sounds did not show up as were listed such as StrappatoStrings etc. In the past, all upgrades went off without a hitch but these new sounds did not show up. What did I do wrong?

After the update you need to go to media, Utility, Factory Restore. This is a necessary step to get the new sounds. If you haven't saved your data yet do if before you do this (Media, Save, All).
For me there wasn't much in the new sounds - it seems its more about keeping compatibility with Pa600/900.
Probably the biggest reason to upgrade is better power management of the backup battery.

I have tried that numerous times but with the same results. I am wondering, do I have to backup on the hard drive? I am presently backing up on the USB memory stick and I am not sure where the PA is restoring from.

After loading the OS update, you need to system restore (factory). Be ware that this will erase user settings and files. You do the backup before the restore if you have user files. Also, you don't restore from a backup, but rather restore from factory setting.

I, too, am having similar problems. I installed 1.62 AND the 1.62 Musical Resources AND did a factory restore, alas, no new sounds available!

Please tell me where the new sounds are located, and what am I doing wrong?

You only need to install the OS using the Pa3X_OS.zip file.
Follow the included instructions making sure that you fully POWER OFF (using the power switch on the back of the PA3X) after the OS is installed.

There are NO resources to install, you simply load them by performing a "Factory Restore" in MEDIA mode exactly as per the instructions.

Alternatively, you could download the RESET file and perform a full keyboard RESET using the Pa3X_res.zip

Then do a search for any of the new sounds (e.g. "StrappatoStrings") see page Appendix iii in the 1.62 upgrade manual)

Found the sounds!
If you try to find the sounds from Performances, they are NOT there, but, if if you touch one of the sounds on the right side of the screen, THEN, a whole new fully populated menu of sounds pop up and ALL the new sounds are there!

Just checking politely that you realise that SOUNDs are different to PERFORMANCEs
A SOUND is exactly that
A PERFORMANCE is a keyboard registration which may load a STYLE with SOUNDs and several other settings.

I too would like to add my name to those who have had problems installing the new op system.,
I was beginning to think that I'm a complete prat at not being able to get it to install- then I read the replies to the same problems that some were having.
I did a Factory Restore after Saving All and low and behold there were the new sounds. I then loaded the Save All data and everything is now as it should be.
However there must be something wrong surely when so many of us were not aware that after installing the new op system you had to do a factory restore !. I've never known that before when installing a new op system in previous models and I wasted a considerable amount of time before cracking it.

With the greatest respect (please don't be offended), this process is very clearly laid out in the manual.
I am like many others and sometimes read the manual last - I did this the first time I updated the PA3X and assumed (big mistake) that it would be same as PA2XPro update - WRONG!!!

The Factory Restore is covered in the manual (page 4) immediately following the OS update procedure:-

Page 4 update manual wrote:Executing a Factory Restore
Loading the operating system may also update Styles, Pads,
Sounds and Performances. This type of data is not actually updated
until you execute a Factory Restore. The need of executing
a Factory Restore is indicated in the Release Notes accompanying
the operating system.
Warning: Executing a Factory Restore will delete all User data
and all custom Factory data (if any). See the “Making a safety
copy of your data” section above for instructions on how to
make a safety copy of your data.

Some updates in the past have modified underlying style structures etc and therefore the Factory Restore is critical, however the release notes always cover any changes to factory data.
For this update, Korg have specified in the Release Notes that there are new SOUNDs and so, if you want them, you must perform the Factory Restore.

There has been confusion regarding the 2 zip files. You only need to use the "OS" zip file for the entire update and factory restore.
The other zip file "res" is for a full reset of the PA3X - you would expect to use this if you are experiencing problems and require a totally cleaned up PA3X - this file also does the same as the "OS" zip file so you will get the latest OS and the opportunity to restore factory data just the same.

I now realise that I should have read the manual properly in the first place as to the need to do a Factory Restore after loading the new system.
Perhaps though this could have be re-emphasised with the download as it has caught out quite a few of us it seems.

Hi,

yes, one of the most common errors (me included) it is to skip the documentation and think knowing how to do it, even the first time.

At the end you understand that loosing 5 minutes to read the right procedure save hours looking for help, posting in the forum and waiting for a reply, recover damage already done.

WE have to take care of the documentation that usually KORG provide us with great detail. Frankly speaking I cannot say that this company is lacking in information provided at any level.
It may be in some cases confused, but nothing is missing IMHO.

It is interesting that you cannot keep the new sounds if you reload your back up!!!!!!! You have to reload your set only
