iPad & Kronos - setup and fav apps
Hey all,
So my fiancé went insane and bought me an iPad out of the blue, and now I'm of course looking to load it with music apps and hook it up to the Kronos for extra goodness. My first question is what kind of connection kit do I use? I'd like to send to and possibly receive midi from it, and receive from and possibly send audio to it. Do I use the regular USB connection that came with it? Or do I need some kit from Apple or a third party? Are there any differences? I'd like one that can charge at the same time if possible.
Next question is which music apps would be good with it? I got iRealbook, iMPC and Scorch so far but they're not really any good with the Kronos specifically. I look at the Moog filter, that looks cool. Any good suggestions?

I have downloaded, moog filtertron, moog animoog, ikaossoitor, imaschine, geosynth and last nite I decided to go for Waldorfs Nave app which is really cool. My favorites are 3rd favorite ikaossoitor, 2nd imaschine and my top pick is animoog. Waldorf Nave is possibly going to supplant # 2 or 3 from its spot. I also just downloaded midi designer pro. Haven't started to dig into it yet.

Thanks. I'll check out set list maker, haven't heard of it before. Also interested in Animoog but the price tag is a bit hefty and I'm not sure yet if I'd get much use out of it. Too bad I couldn't get it when it came out.
iKaossilator looks interesting but gets mixed reviews. I'd be very interested if it could do finger driven dance sweeps, I guess it could? Might be worth it then.
For the camera connection kit, I'm really hoping for something that will allow me to charge the thing at the same time. Better safe than sorry and all that.

I will ask the connection kit and charge questions to my Mac guys. I am lucky I have been working with the same Mac store people for 16 years, if there is a way to charge and use a connector of some kind they will probably know.
I do like ikaossilator but it isn't nearly as fun to use as the kaossilator pro unit. I would really like to have one of them again. But the app is functional and I do have fun with it, it has turned into something my kids enjoy doing with me, at 6 and 8 years old that time is priceless.
You have guided me with Kronos so much I hope I was able to return the favor at least a little.

I posted a question in the ipad section about a midi/audio interface for the ipad. It has a little info about devices that charge (or don't) the ipad.

I'm pretty new to the iPad so hopefully someone with more ipad knowledge will post some answers.

I have the iPad Camera Kit and also a third party version that cost $5 Its brand name is Sharkk And it has multiple connection types - 5 in all. Link:
http://www.amazon.com/SHARKK-Reader-Cam ... rds=sharkk
Says $10 but I'm sure you can find it for less.
You get a message on the iPad saying that its not compatible which you can just ignore.
Animoog has been on special for $1 several times.

iRig Midi is worth having a look at.

The problem for people with an iPad 4 (which I have) is that what may work well for older iPads does not necessarily work for the new ones.Daveg181 wrote:iRig Midi is worth having a look at.

iRig Midi will not charge an iPad4. I have both and can confirm that it will not charge. But otherwise it works ok.
iODock doesn't officially support the iPad 4 and I'm not sure it would fit very well anyway. I have heard that its fine for previous iPads but don't have any experience with older iPads so I can't say for sure.
I have been considering the Griffin Studio Connect with Lightning or maybe the iConnectivity iConnect MIDI2+.

I use the io dock. It's amazing. And onside ring you can find them for $50 now....there's honestly no reason to buy ANYTHING ELSE.

I agree, the Alesis is great. Behringer must think so as well:apex wrote:I use the io dock. It's amazing. And onside ring you can find them for $50 now....there's honestly no reason to buy ANYTHING ELSE.

I don't have any other iPad4 solutions for you, but I hear ya on the extra connections - I thought the same until I found a good price on a new IO Dock. For me as an iPad/iPad2 user, the IO Dock's robustness is worth the extra minute it takes to connect.SanderXpander wrote:Except that I don't want another bunch of connectors and cables. I'd much rather just hook up to the Kronos over USB. Not to mention that the io dock isn't compatible with the iPad 4.

I tried setlist maker, it seems to need quite some work to set it up to your liking but it's pretty good! So thanks for that suggestion
I might try for Kaossilator next, but I mainly need one effect; a fat oscillator or thick noise that lets me control pitch and filter cutoff with my finger. We play a lot of dance and it would be a really useful addition, it's hard to get it right on the Kronos. I've tried fixed samples with sweeps, a knob, slider, ribbon and joystick but I can't really make it work easily.
Does anyone know if Kaossilator can do this? My friend has a KP3 and it has a noise sweep like that that's excellent.
