After a short while in sequencer mode, the number buttons become unresponsive and I cannot select tracks

Can't say that's ever happened to me. Have you updated the OS?

Some older patch collections don't play well with the new OS.

Try the following:
Locate and copy the factory preload data to an SD card
From the media utility on the MicroStation, load the global settings from that file
