Really enjoyed the Eurovision this year. Seemed much better than normal overall.
Happy to see Denmark win, it was a great song. Got to admit though, I had my money on Norway.

Well the UK obviously didn't win from last years mistake of putting someone 30 years older than everyone else in to the competition. I'm surprised that Ireland didn't do better, I thought they were pretty good. I had a £1 on Moldova to win at 300/1. That would have been awesome!
Did anyone else think that the Denmark act sounded like a Shakira tribute act? Great song though.

I was also surprised to see the weird man in a cape with the naked male dancers (Romania) getting so many points! Lol
If you don't live in Europe then you have no idea what you're missing! Actually all joking aside, the contest gets better each year and the acts that win have really good and current songs.

Well you didn't deserve to come in 23rd. Thought the UK would do better than that.
Ireland coming last is a surprise too. Then again... maybe that's what we deserve for trying to sound “Euro” and not Irish.

My wife Christine actually said that to me during the performance. Yeah... totally agree.

He...he... Time for a YouTube Clip.

Thanks for that Sharp.
I really liked those clips. I used to watch ESC many many years ago and it used to be mostly embarrassing but these entries were great.
It was nice to hear two female singers who could actually hold onto a note without needing to demonstrate meaningless vocal gymnastics.
I thought the winning entry was a little "Irish" in style - loved that ....
Cheers
Pete

Norway or Romania should've won, I totally dig that guy

The Romanian guy was the only one that had a voice and was original both in his song and performance, everything else (with the exception of the Azer') sounded generic. Same old Pop-Rock rehashed stuff.
Either way, this competition is more political than talent based anyway, but this is nothing new. Every year the winner is the country that "needs" to win.

Nobody even dare mention Greece? I thought they were just plain fun - just what Eurovision should be.
I loved Petra Mede, the Swedish host, she understood exactly what Camp was and not ashamed to say it... even directly to those in the front row
Quite an entertaining night

Congratulations to Denmark too from my side.
I haven't seen the festival myself, but we're going to play the Dutch song (Anouk - Birds) next week in the gig of the band I play in.

I watched the finals the other night and I can honestly say only one song moved me. In fact the melody, chord progression, and lyrics have been haunting me since my first hearing Anouk's "Birds"....so much so that I could not help writing the following:
"Birds" is a dark and brooding piece. It tells of the ache and suffering of one who has lost the love that was once a precious paradise, but it's now like birds who have forgotten how to fly.
Only another poet
can read such lines and understand
Only another composer
can hear such songs
and feel the lamenting cries
falling on deaf minds
and blind hearts
Only those who find themselves
in the same yearning for the Redemption of Ruined Love
know these hymns all too well
They are sung in the temples
of stolen desires
Where Angels cry
in the shadows
of psalms wet with doubt and despair
waiting
for the HEALER
to come
and make Love Heaven again.

The chord progression is indeed particular, typically for some songs from Anouk.
Also, the notes have in some verses a diminished 5th note and together with the minor chords around it, the song is even more 'sad' than a typical song with minor chords alone.

You mean that wasn't meant to be a Shakira tribute band? Wow. Blatent ripoff.
The Norway song was good and the girl was easy on the eyes and ears, but the lack of any keyboardists to be seen anywhere was BS. Heard but not seen I guess is the best to expect there. It all seemed lipsynced to me, unless it was all glitches in the video. The Romanians have just given up trying to win? The singer reminded me of the bald Japanese ballroom dancer with a wig in the movie Shall We Dance?

I wish all countries sang in their native language.
I do enjoy it though, well I can't stand Graham Nortons commentry although he wasn't as sarcastic and rude about other nations this year as he was last year.
The UK will never win until we get rid of whoever organises it at our end and instead get people more in tune with what is likely to win.
I loathed last years entry and this years was little better, in my opinion an idiot could see we didn't stand a chance.
