Does the Kronos X 61 also have a loud fan like the Kronos?

Post by Still in M0ti0n »

I am thinking about exchanging my Kronos 61 for a Kronos X 61 for several reasons, mostly the extra memory, but I was wondering if the Kronos X also has the problem of the loud fan. Has anybody compared the fan nose between the two? Thanks for the help!

Hi,

1) My new Kronos 61 does not have a loud/noisy fan.
2) I could have purchased a Kronos X 61, but when I did the math, it was FAR cheaper to eventually install more memory myself.

My math for number (2) is that you will take a substantial loss on selling your Kronos 61, and it will cost more (than what you originally paid for your Kronos 61) to get the Kronos X 61.

Hell, it would pay you to buy a new fan (assuming it's out of warranty, and if so, you can do # (1) above yourself), buy more memory, a second SSD, and you'll still come out way ahead of what it's going to cost to upgrade from a used keyboard.

Just my two cents!

I won't take a loss because its brand new, if i return it I will get all my money back.

1) Did you buy it locally or off the Internet?
2) What's the difference in price?

I bought it at Guitar Center.

I just took it back and ordered the Kronos X 61 on sale for the same price I originally paid for the Kronos 61. :D

Good for you!

You either:
a) Paid too much for the Kronos 61.
b) Got a REALLY great deal on the X, because it usually costs anywhere from $500.00 to $600.00 more than the discontinued, original Kronos.

Either way, I'm glad for you!

As an aside, what kind of a deal did they make you price wise?

The answer is both A and B. I paid too much for the original Kronos (retail) and got a great deal on the X (15% off Presidents Weekend Sale). I just checked my records and I actually ended up paying a little bit less for the X :D The original Kronos was $2,799 + tax (3,021 total) and the X was $3,199 + tax but I saved 479 bucks with the sale so it turned out to be $3,014 after tax.

Excellent move. I was wondering how you pulled that off. On the GC page they have "exclusions" and when you call about those manufacturers that are usually top notch, you will usually find that they are excluded from the promotion. Did you get them to discount it anyway? As Korg, Roland, Yamaha, Kurzweil are always "excluded"...meaning they are listed as not participating in the GC promotional sales. :) :)

I was reading this post and wondering, because I had seen brand new Kronos 61s selling in the $1700.00 range a couple of months or so past. As a matter of fact, as best I recall, I could have purchased one of them. I don't recall the retailer, but it was a legitimate offer. I saw several offers well under the $2700.00 that they were using as a MAP. If it had not been for the bad reliability reports, I would have bought one for about $2100.00, which was the best offer that I had at the time. That price included a $200.00 rebate on the unit. I think that ended in January, this year. If you paid anywhere near the $2700.00 amount for the Kronos, you dodged the bullet by trading for the X. Kronos prices took a nose dive after the Kronos X came out.(and due to teething problems)

A tremendous value then and now.

I paid 2450.00 walk out price for my KronosX61 from Musicians Friend about 6 months ago. I was actually one of the first with the X. Used a 20% off coupon.

I always get a little sick reading these price discussions between Americans. Even though I got a good deal myself, the differences are staggering.

It feels like the non-US folks are paying for the US discounts. Not to mention that with the dollar so low against the euro, the US base price is already a couple hundred dollars lower than the EU base price. If the Kronos were made in US I'd understand but as it is, I feel pretty shafted. They have to make their money somewhere and they're doing it over here.
