Hi !!! Before 2 dayes i buy the Korg EXB 256MB Sample-RAM for my Pa3x .THE memory ( after Delete all samples - Format Disc - and Factory Restore ( with the 1.50 latest operation system ) is : MONO TIME 2796 s , BYTES 268435456 and LARGEST BLOCK 268435456 .
I have AND the Ecomusik USB stick and some other samples-sounds For my Pa3x .
When I ( put the Ecomusik USB Stick ) and i load my ALL Set ( Eco and my Samples ) , the memory change to : MONO TIME : 57 s , BYTES 5565748 and LARGEST BLOCK 5565748 .
I want to put and some other samples but the memory is not enough .So i use the ''COMPRESS SAMPLES'' , and after about 2 hours The new memory was : SAMPLES 3242 , DRUM SAMPLES 1687 , MULTISAMPLES 212 AND
AVALABLE MEMORY : MONO TIME 720 s , BYTES 69214900 AND LARGEST BLOCK 5662380 ..

Only MONO TIME 729 s , or BYTES 69214900 ???
Whih the COMPRESS it should to have another 250 mb of ram memory .
THE KORG SAY THAT : PCM RAM Memory: 128 MB standard (equivalent to 256 MB linear data), expandable up to 256 MB (equivalent to 512MB linear data) with the optional EXB-M256 memory expansion board


Im i doing something wrong ? Has my Ram memory problem ?

You can compress only your free User samples , not external USB recalled resources !
They will always loaded to the state they are ... uncompressed or whatever !
For more details ask your USB stick resources provider.
If you notice , only your own samples were compressed (122 Mb) !
Another thing , when you normally compress your 256 Mb sample data then free memory
is 128 Mb not 256 since total ram is 256 Mb and not 512.
Linear data are the actual binary data , and binary data are always the double in
size for all samplers

I dont understand why KORG didnt just put a 512mb RAM in the begining instead of flashing with a compressor that is buggy and not well working?

would that not just have saved some time?

If this is true for the ECOMUSIK usb , you look normal the the numbers who i write on my thread ?

The Eco is ( with right click at my pc ) : 131MB ( 137.947.977 byte )
Capacity to disc 132MB ( 139.116.544 byte ) .
Contains 142 Files , 9 Folders .

I don't know details for your Usb stick resources , but if your own samples are 122 Mb
in decompressed state , then page status info of your Pa3X is right !

Delete all sample data , load only Usb stick resources look at mem info , compress all
samples and restart Pa3X.
If this Set works normally then look again at mem info to find out if resources are really
compressed or loaded back in same state from Usb stick.
If really compressed then remaining expanded memory must be approximately 2080 sec.

Andony , and friends of this forum ( About the PA3X ECOMUSIK USB STCK ) ..
I spoke with the Ecomusik manufacturer , Mr Ercan , and he told me that there is no more compressed the SET .This is definitely and very sure ....
Now , a simple question ....
The samples that i have Already into my Pa3x ( with the compress edit mode ) , can i compress them twice ? or 3 or 4 times ?

According to your syntax ,132 MB Stick resources are already compressed by manufacturer ,
so your remaining expanded Ram is 124 MB (or 248 Mb compressed ).
About your question about further compression , first of all you have no result executing further
compression function , but additionally you can experiment in your PC with WinRar to re-compress
an already max. compressed audio file to understand the obvious "no size changing".

Using other algorithms like mp3's or downgrading sample rate , we could manage further
compression size reduction , but the requested here is loss less compression and
max possible compression for Pa3X algorithms is 50 % for keeping same sound quality.

Compression was used on the early stages when memory chips and storage
devices (hard drives and tapes backup) were very expensive. I remember
on my old DOS system the use of STACKER disk compressor to increase
hard drive size. Today with the price drop of memories and at the same time
the cheap price of storage devices per gigabyte compression is not more
used.

For example on Yamaha Motif XF 2 giga bytes of sampling area is available
on flash devices to reach a fast boot up (below 10 secs) without the need of
a battery backup for data retention.

Compression is a matter of the past, my point of view.

You've missed the point here , since compression purpose is not used to save disk space but
to double Ram capacitance since memory address bus limit is 256 Mb (512 binary) due to this Pa model.
In addition, real time decompression requires extra speed that only ram can afford to manage.

At the other hand Yamaha uses other method , except controllers acceleration , system boots
fast but samples keep on loading after OPS booting and has 4 times increased latency time
compared with Pa3X and it's booting method.
All manufacturers are trying to adopt cheap methods to fulfill sampler functions and acceptable
booting delay time.

All are aware of the right method that all manufacturers should adopt and this is what PC & Mac
use for more than 10 years in music industry ,like modern speedy chipsets , Gbs DDR3
support motherbords and DFD method for samples.
All other suggestions or opinions for flash memory garbage are just time wasting !

Thank you Antony and friends for the informations ( i understand ) ...... I wonder, finaly .. is there any device ( hardware ) sampler to put all my samples i have ( about 8 Gb ) and to use them ? No Pc , one latest hardware Sampler ..
To use my Pa3x separately for styles and one External sampler with a good midi Controller to play all my Samples real time ..

Know someone please ?

KronosX as Upper keyboard is the ideal solution , all other perspectives are just crap !
It can handle up to 15 Gb User samples with advanced strategy as I've had described here :

Very useful Antony , but i have already some other syntesizers-workstations ... so ... Why to buy the KRONOS ? Why to buy another extra syntesizer , i have ( Triton studio , Fntom G etc ... )
Is there any SAMPLER ( only the device ) to Load my 10 gb samples ?
