I have the AKG Q701 (Quincy Jones edition) and I am really glad I splashed out for them as they are fantastic cans !

Hi Jürgen,
personally I own a pair of Beyerdynamic DT880 PRO that in my opinion are great for the price tag !
They are really good for Mixing and mastering with a real neutral sound !
The Bass frequency range is well present as well as the high frequency range. (Made in germany) !

Cheers.

I'm very happy with my Audio Technica ATH-M40fs headphones.
If music is the food of love, play on and play loud!
Gear: Kronos 73, Wavestation EX, Polysix, King Korg, Monotron and Monotron Duo, Minikorg, Moog Grandmother, my very old MiniKorg, 4 acoustic and 9 electric guitars, 1 Ibanez 5 string bass, a Steel guitar, a bunch of microphones, 2 pairs of studio monitors and other very cool toys, 1 wife and 4 cats and a lava lamp!

Sennheiser HD600

Post by postman »

I use my Sennheiser HD600 for many years now. It was certainly not cheap.
I tested several headphones without any knowledge of the price. At the end I chose the Sennheiser. When I heard the price, I had a difficult moment. But I am very happy that I did it anyway. It is very detailed and shows the full capacity of my synths. But you will have to test yourself. I fear it is a also very much a matter of taste.

Not if you want to do some mixing and monitoring.

The high end (and expensive) headphones need much more power to drive. You have to buy a high quality (and expensive) headphone amplifier. That's why the AKG K701/K702 or Sennheiser 600's will cost you a fortune. I use a AKG K271MkII, a closed system. But the K240MkII is a semi open circumaural headphone, which one of my friends owns and is very happy with.
Korg KronosX73, Kurzweil PC3K6, Roland V-Synth GT, Kawai K5000S, Waldorf Blofeld, Novation Ultranova, Behringer Neutron, Yamaha HS80M, Boss Micro BR80, Zoom H6, Sony PCM D100, Tascam DP32SD, Mackie 1202VLZ4, Zoom MS-70CDR, Rode NT1, Sony MDR 7506.

Me too. One of most neutral headphones out there. Great for reference and checking out mixes.

My BeyerDynamic certainly needs more power than small in ear buds, and struggles on some laptop or mp3 player outputs. However, it's fine on my synths. Guess synth manufacturers might have realized people who buy expensive synths might have good headphones?

Well built, but the sound from them is heavily coloured.

+1 to what Francois said.

Still love my Sennheiser HD 25 SP's

Don't know the spec......I put them on, and my ears like them.

I've got the DT-770 Pros (can be had for around $200) and find them comfortably and neutral. Best cans I've ever owned. YMMV.
