Reboot always necessary after FTPing sample set?

First I have to say that I'm very impressed and happy with the Korg 2.0.2 OS update. Thank you Korg!
After succesfully adding a second SSD (128GB Samsung 830) and connecting an Apple USB to Ethernet adapter I transfered two sample sets by FTP to my second SSD: Purgatory Creek Mark V EP and Superwave P8.
When I tried load the corresponding _USERBANK.KSC files, in the Load dialog I got the following error message in red: KSC is incomplete due to uninstalled EXs:??1
After closing the FTP session on my PC, switching to Combi, Prog, Sampling mode and back to Disk mode, selecting the first SSD and then the second SSD, I kept getting the error message.
Finally, after rebooting the Kronos I was able to load both _USERBANK.KSC files successfully.
My question: is rebooting the Kronos after transferring sample sets by FTP always necessary in order to load _USERBANK.KSC files or is there a workaround?

I have the exact same problem. I was just about to post a request. One work around I've discovered to it copy the file(s) to another directory. It takes time and space, but it works. Hopefully there will be a fix soon.

Fortunately I'm not the only one with this problem.
It looks like transfering files by FTP keeps some files open while copying files on the Kronos results in properly closed and complete files.
Let's wait for a less time consuming workaround or a fix from Korg.

You guys wouldn't be trying to load the thumbnail instead of the actual file would you? Sometimes when transferring from a computer, the hidden thumbnail files are transfered and show up in the Kronos file system. These files contain info about the icon associated with the file.
Mac or PC?
Which FTP program are you using?
I'm on a Mac and use Fetch. I have not had this issue. BTW, most FTP programs have a preference setting so that these hidden "._" (on the Mac) are not transferred. Windows has a similar issue.

I am using the built in FTP functionality of Windows 7. I validated that all files had been transfered. I also used the FTP plugin of a file manager Altap Salamander. Both ways of copying files gives an error message when loading the KSC file.
I am sure that all files have been transfered properly because loading the KSC file just after transfering the files results in an error message and powering the Kronos down and up just after that results in loading the same KSC file properly.

Windows 7 x64 here.
Apple Ethernet Adaptor and FileZilla as my FTP Client.
I cannot replicate this issue. Everything work as expected.
I login to the KRONOS with FileZilla
Transfer my files.
I hit the disconnect button in FileZilla.
I work away as normal on the KRONOS.
No issues.

Sharp.

Radaska, you found the way! thanks. already began scratching my head.
Superwave P8 and Mark V were not loading into Virtual Memory.
Rebooted and now everything is fine!
I confirm the problem for FTP client of Midnight Commander (Linux).
USB-Ethernet adapter TrendNet TU2-ET100.
Not tried to disconnect after transfer, but not sure if it is possible in MC.

I'm using Linux and a ftp client lftp. It seems to be only with the *_UserBank.KSC files. When I try to load the *_UserBank.KSC file I get a message
Code: Select all
KSC is incomplete due to uninstalled EXs:Mark V ver 1
After I copied the .PCG, .KSC, _UserBank.KSC files to a new directory,
it could see it. Perhaps is a file case or naming issue. The file names look good, but that message comes up.
After some more testing, if you just rename the files from the Kronos pulldown menu, and rename them back, this seems to solve the problem. Maybe it has something to do with unicode utf-8 issues. I'm going to do more testing.

Do thesebidden files take up actual space? I assume they can be deleted too?

Ok after much testing. I've deteremined that all that is required is to rename
the .KSC the _UserBank.KSC file points to. For instance:
Code: Select all
Mark V ver 1.KSC
Mark V ver 1_UserBank.KSC
On the kronos rename
to
and then back to
the when I try to load
everything seems to be fine. I've tried lftp, ncftp, standard ftp from linux and they all seem to have the same problem. I'm wondering how the file names get passed to the ftp server from the working applications? This is where the problem exists.

Hi qfingers.
Try transferring in Binary mode and see if you still have a problem.

Renaming is causing the KRONOS to re-evaluate the file system, and in doing so it detects the new User Sample Bank. This should happen whenever any disk activity occurs, including over FTP. So, the renaming itself is a red herring.
(As a side point, the name doesn't matter! You can change the name and it will still be found. See "User Sample Bank IDs" in the User Sample Banks section of the Operation Guide.)
I wonder if there is something which most FTP clients do at the end of the file transfer, and which is somehow not happening in these cases. For those using a mounted ftp volume in Windows 7 Explorer: what happens if you un-mount the ftp volume after completing the ftp transfer, before trying to load the file on the KRONOS?

I already tried that, and it doesn't fix the problem. lftp defaults to binary mode. It all has to do with file naming. And only with the *_UserBank.KSC files. Everything else works great. The other interesting thnig is if I rename the parent directory with my ftp client, the error message at least shows the correct .KSC file but the kronos can't seem to find it. If I rename the parent directory using the Kronos, then the *_UserBank.KSC can be loaded. All the sub-directories with the sample files require no change.
I didn't have to change anything else.
Is it possible for you to capture a log of the ftp communication using your client? I'm wondering if your client encodes the filename differently.
Thanks,
q

Please see above. Names are almost certainly not the issue.

I respectfully disagree, the filename problem is everything as far as I can tell. To prove it, I uploaded a different file to see if a rescan of the filesystem would fix the problem and it did not. I get 2 failure modes:
Code: Select all
KSC is incomplete due to uninstalled EXs:??1
This happens when I upload the files to the /SSD1 directory and I upload the "MARK V ver 1.KSC" along with the *_UserBank.KSC file. If I rename the file as I described, the *_UserBank.KSC can be loaded without problem.
If I create a directory with FTP and move the files into that directory. I get the 2nd failure mode:
Code: Select all
KSC is incomplete due to uninstalled EXs:MARK V ver 1
If I rename the parent directory, The *_UserBank.KSC can again be loaded. So, I'm not sure the file naming
is a red-herring.
