5 minutes 11 seconds

Post by runningman67 »

No it is not my boot up time lol

At 5 minutes 11 seconds of this youtube video, this is why I fell in love with synths aged 10.
At 45 I have the Kronos and I am still in love with the synth.

What was your defining moment in the love affair?

Great topic! Not sure if it is love affair with the synth or the Kronos however

If it is the synth then without a shadow of a doubt it is the album China, by Vangelis. That's what did it for me - up to that point it was career as a classical pianist. I heard that album and it changed my musical outlook forever.

That was all in 1980! I heard that he used Korgs. I heard he used other makes as well. But Korg was the one for me. My first keyboard was a Korg Delta (or DL-50) which was £700-odd brand new in 1981.

Just remembered there was a track by Tomita around the same time - his take on Ravel's Bolero. That was inspiring too :)

I still call my Kronos a Synth. Must be my age lol
Vangelis. Legend. Blade Runner! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cg0cmhjd ... ure=fvwrel
I believe the synth in my you tube clip (5.11) is an ARP Oddysey. Which became my first synth.

Bladerunner! Best soundtrack of all time (one of the best movies too!)! Tell you a funny story - Bladerunner was released and of course heard that Vangelis wrote the music. So I go along the first week of its release. I shut my eyes and listened to every note, every sound, every texture, every nuance. My girlfriend at the time asked me if it was a good movie - I replied that I had no idea! I was so busy listening to the music...

I had to go again with her to 'see' the film! I went another 5 times after that. Each time magical - still watch to this day... and still amazes and inspires me.

Ah, the ARP Odyssey - one synth I would love to have tried...

I was about 19 when having my first synth, and I chose not really a good one but I didn't know anything about synths at that time.

My first wow factor with synths was the album Rubycon by Tangerine Dream (which was a birthday present from an older cousin of mine, who knew his music). Then came Oxygène and I never looked back.

First synth was a Korg Trident, second hand, which taught me about programming sounds.

Link is to War of the Worlds - the Jeff Wayne creation :)

Oxygene was fab!

And so was Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn; fantastic mix of acoustic and electronic; along with Vangelis one of the early pioneers...

For me, the moment I realised I wanted one was during Brian Eno's synth solo on "Editions of you", on Roxy Music's "For your pleasure". Unfortunately, this was when synths cost as much as a house, so it was a while before I got one!

Sorry I misinterpreted the thread so I try again:

My first wow factor was the following song:

A dutch 'band' with a song from 1981.

I fell in love with synth based music through the following tracks:

What Time Is Love? (Original 1988 mix) by The KLF
